Depends on your printer. We have vacuum nests that make Grid Lock difficult to install. We also use the Gels on our placement equipment.

The added benefit to MPM SP's is that, it forces the operator to look at quality. She won't have 2d or 3d to rely on. Also, it places heavy emphasis on a good setup.

Contaniminates are always a issue. What chemicals do you use? Do you plasma clean? Are the production personnel wereing finger cots to reduce added contaminates?

What board finish are you using? Is it the same on both boards? Were both boards manufactured at the same plant?

Saunders Technology... or ECD (makers of M.O.L.E.) has what is called a TEMPROBE that will work how you want... even in "wet" solder paste. Maybe others here can tell you if it works well or not, I use KIC. www.ECD.com/saunders/tp.htm

Here's a crude wettability test. Take a PCB - both types of finish - print them, and reflow with no components using your standard profile. Observe the wetting spread and flow of the solder paste. This rules in/out that it's PCB solderability.

I use Namics 8437-2 for micro BGA and flip chips. Will work for QFN or MLF after soldering. Flows well under gaps as thin as 0.001". Cure in 5-10 min at 150 C. Rock solid product. Is bit expensive. Is from Japan.

The iron of my choice would be the Hakko iron. They have a double plating on their tips. The cost is relatively low and have a digital read out. They can also be locked out so that the temperatures can't be reset by the operators. This is the onl

I agree with Fastek. Auto dispense is for high volume. We have 5 printers with this option and never use it. PS: Harry...why don't you post on the site ? Is there a conspiracy ?
