Re: Quantity of dross and type of flux

Electronics Forum | Tue Nov 14 22:01:07 EST 2000 | Dave F

I'd love to get to the point that I could discuss the impact of flux on dross formation. Until then, I fight with proper solder pot temperature, maintaining enough pump speed, and solder contaminants.

Anybody have problen soldering a IC with leads that are copper base, plated with 300 u inch min. of 80Sn/20Pb solder? We are having problems soldering a 16 mil QVSOP to a Gold Flash Board. Thanks Chris

contamination on feedthru wires

I am having a problem with wetting on some feedthru wires. The problem seems to be contamination on the wires, due to the fact that the problem seems to be wire lot dependent. I have analysed it using SEM and come up with very little. Is there ano

Stencil for 10 mils IC

Electronics Forum | Sun Nov 12 21:28:09 EST 2000 | Rchard Eigner

We are manufacturing a PCB that uses an integrated circuit that has a leg spacing of 10 mils, other components on the PCB are 1206's and 0805's. Is it possible to make the stencil apertures 10 mils apart or is there another way of making the stencil.

Depending on the designers pad size, I generally go for 0.010" aperture with 0.010" spacing - stencil thickness 0.005". This combo with metal squeegees and the "usual suspects" of printer set up and placement details should you you hassle free.

Hi Jax, CAD Software is Protel and the machine is Yamaha YM84 Hyper Series. thanks

Does the alignment issue only pop up on certain parts or everything on the board? Do you set your origin on the corner of the board or on a fiducial? Do you always have to move the parts the same amount of distance?

Hi George! Is your CAD in inches and your equipment metric by any chance? If so, make sure your CAD data is converted to metric using at least 4 digit after the decimal (0.1234" for example)

George, Send me your email address, I'll send you some files and programs that will make things clearer for you, and easier to convert your cad data straight from Protel to Yamaha Hyper series format. Darby.
