Hi, Has anyone got first hand experience with the JT wave soldering machines, WS series? I use a low solid VOC free flux and it seems I have problems atomizing the flux properly and this generates soldering defects, leaving lumps and big solder bal

The onsite generator drops approx. 30psi from the input. We feed ours 110psi and end up around 80psi in the tank, which we regulate to 65psi for the machines.

Sounds right, our actual pressure in the system is 120psi, the regulated to 100 in the machines.

I would like to know when to consider top preheaters in a wave soldering machine. I am very new to this field. All responses are appreciated.

it can adjusted per the machine and your boards, Not a fix for every board, also if you are talking about the LF wave soldering process, it should be moved to largr angle compared to the tranditional sn/pb soldering

"In your example, you are comparing "Energy used to heat the solder and keep it warm" versus "Energy used to keep the solder warm" and fully discount the fact that the machine was ever turned off." Track and field fans refer to this as the "Bob Cost

Try Looking at Selective soldering, Unless you have that many through hole components. Ace offers a great machine for selective soldering.

Selective soldering machines are a good way to "finish automation", if the design of the PCB is conducive to the application with just a few components to solder. Your points are good. A decision matrix for selecting a machine might also include:

What purity? To get 99.999% pure you will need dewers of liquid nitrogen or a two stage system. (and a dewer will last about a month and a half even if you don't use it as it outgasses.) But you can get reasonable purity with a wall mounted single s
