Royal Philips Electronics today announced the appointment of Mr. Scott
McGregor as President and CEO of Philips Semiconductors with effect
from September 1 2001.
Scott McGregor (45), currenly based in San Jose, California, joined
Philips Semiconductors in February 1998 with responsibility for the
newly created unit Emerging Businesses, focusing on creating
fast-growing markets such as Smart Cards, Networking, Digital Media
Processing, and Computing. He grew this unit to a profitable business
approaching USD 1 billion in size and led the successful integration
of VLSI Technology. Prior to Philips, he held senior management
positions at the Xerox Palo Alto Research Center, Microsoft, Digital
Equipment (now Compaq), and SCO. Scott McGregor holds a BA in
Psychology, and an MS in Computer Science and Computer Engineering
from Stanford University.
Scott McGregor will relocate to Philips Semiconductors global
headquarters in Eindhoven, The Netherlands, taking over the
responsibilities for Philips' global semiconductors operations from
Mr. Arthur van der Poel, a member of the Board of Management.
The Board of Management will propose to the Supervisory Board to
appoint Mr. McGregor to the Group Management Committee from 1 January
2002. This move completes the process to have dedicated CEOs for all
product divisions with a small Board of Management that concentrates
on the key issues for the Philips Group as a whole. In this context,
Arthur van der Poel will, on behalf of the Board of Management,
continue to supervise Semiconductors, as well as Components and
Consumer Communications.
Mr. Gerard Kleisterlee, President and CEO of Royal Philips
Electronics, commented: "Scott has led the emerging business in an
inspiring and very successful way. Although at the moment the industry
is in heavy weather, Philips will continue to invest for a future
where semiconductors are at the heart of the convergence that leads to
a variety of new devices and functions. Under Scott's leadership we
aim to be the leading provider of semiconductor based systems that are
the core of these functions. We will make this happen by providing the
technologies we have developed for digital consumer and wireless
communication."
