BTU International to Highlight Thermal Capabilities at AABC

Jan 28, 2014

BTU International, Inc., a leading supplier of advanced thermal processing equipment for the electronics and alternative energy manufacturing markets, will exhibit in booth #115 at the 38th International Conference and Expo on Advanced Ceramics and Composites  (ICACC), scheduled to take place January 26-31, 2014, in Daytona Beach, FL. Ramesh Peelamedu, PhD., senior research scientist at BTU, will present a paper titled “An Industrial Microwave (Hybrid) System for In-Line Processing of High Temperature Ceramics” that he co-authored with Donald A. Seccombe Jr., P.E.

The interaction of microwave energy with materials can result in direct heating and bring operational costs down compared to a convection/radiant heat transfer process. The hybrid microwave in-line system is capable of processing large sized samples at temperatures between 100°-1150°C in a continuous manner without any interruption, making it convenient for a number of high volume manufacturing type environments. Very high thermal uniformity across the process chamber, even at elevated temperatures, is a unique feature of the system. Case studies such as P- and B-diffusion in Si wafer, ceramics sintering, and material activation will be discussed, as well as safety and cost of ownership considerations.

For more than 60 years, BTU International has been the trusted name for high-tech customers with a need to solve high-volume thermal processing challenges. With over 10,000 tools shipped, BTU is recognized for its design, manufacture and support of advanced thermal processing equipment. Customers with high-tech operations in solar cell, electronics assembly, semiconductor packaging, nuclear fuel, advanced ceramics and next generation batteries can depend on BTU.

BTU International is global supplier and technology leader of advanced thermal processing equipment and processes to the electronics and alternative energy manufacturing markets. BTU equipment is used in the production of printed circuit board assemblies and semiconductor packaging as well as in solar cell and nuclear fuel manufacturing. BTU has operations in North Billerica, Massachusetts and Shanghai, China with direct sales and service in the USA, Asia and Europe.
