BTU International Celebrates 75 Years of Innovation in Thermal Processing Technology

Jan 06, 2025

BTU International, Inc. proudly marks its 75th anniversary in 2025. Since its founding in 1950, BTU has been at the forefront of technological advancements, enabling innovation in electronics manufacturing and beyond.

“In 1950, I don’t think BTU’s founders could have imagined how technology would evolve, how it would change the world, and what a pivotal role BTU would play,” said Rob DiMatteo, Vice President and General Manager of BTU International. “In the beginning, our furnaces enabled the production of some of the first semiconductor devices. Later, our reflow ovens were key to the transition to surface mount technology and high-volume electronics production. Today, our systems are utilized for the production of electronics and semiconductors used in electric vehicles, artificial intelligence, and other advanced technologies.”

As a wholly owned subsidiary of Amtech Systems, Inc. (Nasdaq: ASYS), BTU International is a global leader in advanced thermal processing equipment. The company’s high-performance convection reflow ovens are essential for SMT printed circuit board assembly and semiconductor packaging processes. Additionally, BTU’s expertise extends to precision-controlled, high-temperature belt furnaces used in custom applications such as brazing, direct bond copper, and aluminum sintering.

With operations in Westford, MA, and Shanghai, China, BTU supports a global network of customers across more than 30 countries. Over the past 75 years, BTU has earned a reputation for delivering high-quality solutions designed to meet the challenges of high-volume thermal processing with a focus on precision, atmosphere control, and superior product yields.

As BTU reflects on its legacy, the company is committed to advancing the boundaries of thermal processing technology, driving progress in emerging markets like electric vehicles, artificial intelligence, and renewable energy.
