IPC and SMTA Announce Keynote Speakers for High Performance Cleaning and Coating Conference

Nov 04, 2010

ROSEMONT, IL - Industry-leading associations IPC and SMTA jointly announce the keynote speakers for the High Performance Cleaning and Coating Conference, scheduled to take place November 16-18, 2010 at the Renaissance Hotel & Convention Center in Schaumburg, IL.

Doug Pauls and Dave Hillman of Rockwell Collins will keynote the Cleaning and Coating Conference. Four IPC specifications, published in late 2009 and 2010, are expected to have impacts on cleaning processes and cleanliness definitions.

The keynote address will cover the cleaning and cleanliness provisions of IPC-J-STD-001E, IPC-610E, IPC-5704, and IPC-9202/9203.  IPC-J-STD-001, often referred to as the national soldering standard, is the predominant international standard on the manufacturing and acceptability of electronic assemblies. IPC-A-610 is the widely accepted visual guide for assembly acceptability and workmanship standards. IPC-5704 is a newly developed ion-chromatography standard on the cleanliness of unpopulated (bare) printed boards, which is often a major consideration in acceptable cleanliness of manufactured assemblies.

IPC-9202 and its companion users guide, IPC-9203, is one accepted way to demonstrate materials compatibility from a cleanliness or residue perspective.  IPC-9202 has been envisioned as an international process qualification protocol. The presentation will cover the key points for consideration in each specification and expected impacts on fabricators and assemblers.
