IPC Honors Lockheed Martin and Intel Corporation with Corporate Recognition Awards

Feb 26, 2013

IPC — Association Connecting Electronics Industries® bestowed its highest corporate honors to Lockheed Martin and Intel Corporation. During a luncheon held in conjunction with IPC APEX EXPO®, IPC awarded the IPC Peter Sarmanian Corporate Recognition Award to Lockheed Martin and the IPC Stan Plzak Corporate Recognition Award to Intel Corporation.

Named for a former IPC Board Chairman, the Peter Sarmanian Corporate Recognition Award honors an IPC member company in the printed board industry that has taken a leadership role and made contributions to the industry while demonstrating support of IPC through participation in technical and/or management programs.

As one of the longest standing IPC members, Lockheed Martin celebrated its 50th anniversary with IPC in 2009. Perhaps no other corporate member has devoted as many staff members to IPC standards development. More than five dozen Lockheed Martin staff provide their leadership and technical expertise on 110 standards development committees ranging from design and boards to assembly and supply chain standards.

In addition to standards committee participation, Lockheed Martin takes IPC training and certification very seriously. The company is a licensed training center for the J-STD-001, IPC-A-610, IPC/WHMA-A-620 and IPC-7711 & IPC-7721 programs and has Master Instructors for each. More than 500 Lockheed Martin employees have earned certified specialist status and nearly 100 have earned certified trainer status. They currently have more than 50 designers who have participated in the IPC Designer Certification program.

Named after a former IPC Board Chairman who was a founding member of the Electronics Manufacturing Services Industry Management Council, the Stan Plzak Corporate Recognition Award was presented to Intel Corporation for its initiative in enhancing the industry while demonstrating support of IPC through participation in technical and/or management programs.

Intel Corporation has been a member since 1980, with five member facilities in the United States. Nearly 70 Intel staff members are active on 88 IPC committees. Of the 70 Intel employees who serve on technical committees, 10 serve in a chair or vice chair role.  The company has nearly 40 certified IPC specialists, a half dozen certified IPC trainers and more than 40 designers who have participated in the IPC Designer Certification program.

For many years, both Lockheed Martin and Intel Corporation have helped the electronics manufacturing industry move forward because of their commitment to and their employees’ active participation in industry standards development and other IPC committee initiatives. IPC as an association is privileged to have them in our membership and in leadership roles on many of our committees,” said John Mitchell, IPC president and CEO.
