Phoenix International and Uyemura International Corp. Earn IPC Corporate Recognition Awards

Apr 15, 2009

BANNOCKBURN, Ill., USA, April 1, 2009 IPC IPC Association Connecting Electronics Industries is pleased to honor Uyemura International Corp. and Phoenix International with the Peter Sarmanian and Stan Plzak Corporate Recognition Awards respectively. These awards are bestowed in recognition of their steadfast support of IPC and significant contributions of time and expertise to standards development and other vital IPC activities. The companies were recognized during the IPC Annual Meeting and Luncheon, March 31, 2009 in Las Vegas.

Named for a former IPC Board Chairman, the IPC Peter Sarmanian Corporate Recognition Award recognizes an IPC member corporation in the printed circuit board industry that has taken a leadership role and made contributions to the industry while demonstrating support of IPC through participation in technical and/or management programs.

As its motto states, Uyemura is powered by science and focused on customers and each Uyemura employee is proud to embody these values. In order to stay customer focused, nearly a dozen of the company's employees serve on IPC technical committees. Says George Milad, Uyemura national accounts manager for technology and chairman of the IPC 4-10 and 4-14 committees, There's no better place to feel the pulse of our industry than serving on an active IPC committee. You actually cooperate with your market competitors within an engineering and scientific environment, far away from the pressure of actual marketplace competition. There's nothing more satisfying than being instrumental in the development of a new industry standard.

The IPC Stan Plzak Corporate Recognition Award honors and recognizes a corporation in the electronics assembly industry that has taken initiative to actively contribute to enhancing the industry while demonstrating support of IPC through participation in technical and/or management programs. This award is named for former Board Chairman and founding member of the IPC Electronics Manufacturing Services Management Council, Stan Plzak.

When Mark Wolfe, vice president of quality and supply management at Phoenix was notified of the award, his thoughts immediately turned to memories of Stan. I had the pleasure to work with Stan on numerous occasions and his commitment to IPC was evident in everything he did. We strive to parallel that same devotion to the association and our industry in general.

Training is a serious matter at Phoenix. All program managers are required to undergo IPC's rigorous EMS Manager Training and Certification program. In addition, numerous staff members have mastered criteria within several of IPC's standards, and on-staff designers have pursued Certified Interconnect Designer (CID) and Advanced CID status.

Phoenix International has been in operation for more than two decades. We're not a huge company, but do take pride in our work and enjoy imparting some of our knowledge and wisdom to others, says Wolfe. When industry members work together, whether in a standards development meeting, executive management meeting or on the show floor, it's mutually beneficial. That's why we find IPC so valuable. It gives us the opportunity to network, collaborate, share knowledge and face common challenges all under one umbrella.
