Light at the End of the Lead-free Tunnel

Mar 07, 2003

The impending lead-free implementation deadline of July 2006 suddenly doesn't seem so far away. The increased awareness of this was reflected in the level of attendance at a joint NPL/SMART lead-free event in February which sold-out the 128-seat venue in Teddington.

Whilst research at NPL (and around the world) is helping to minimise some of the uncertainty about the generic concerns with lead-free production and electronics reliability, many companies still have specific concerns associated with their product, production processes, suppliers and customers.

Recognising this NPL now offer an on-site Lead-Free Health Check, where the issues brought to bear by lead-free are examined in the context of your company. The on-site consultation can involve presentations to staff (Production, Design, Quality, Buyers and Managers), a review of production, rework and inspection procedures, and suitability of equipment. This bespoke service provides an ideal chance to raise questions specific to your situation as a manufacturer, and for independent scrutiny of how lead-free could affect your business.

National Physical Laboratory has celebrated a century of materials research & measurement. NPL were a focal point when the challenge of the Montreal Protocol challenged our industry. In recent years NPL has conducted exhaustive research into lead-free technology. Let us help you to face the challenge of legislation that is banning lead.
