VT-S720: New Inspection System Using 3D Measurement

Omron Inspection Systems (www.omron247.com) will debut a new concept in its AOI systems - the VT-S720 Inspection System featuring 3D reconstruction measurement technology - at the IPC APEX Expo trade show in San Diego, California on February 28-March 1, 2012. Visit Omron at booth #2649 to get an in-depth demo from Omron’s experts on the VT-S720, as well as the VT-RNSII in-line and benchtop, post reflow AOI inspection systems and the VP5200 in-line 3D solder paste inspection system.

VT-S720: New Inspection System Using 3D Measurement

The new VT-S720 in-line post reflow solder inspection system was designed to improve inspection accuracy with a new 3D reconstruction measurement inspection technology and increased throughput by shortening tact time with an expanded field of view. The VT-S720 also utilizes a telecentric lens with a 2-megapixel camera which reduces image distortion to increase accuracy of inspections at the edges of its large field of view. The system delivers high resolution inspection of up to 15µm for components as small as 01005 and 12 mil pitch.

The VT-S720 features improved inspection capabilities and cycle times, minimized user input and judgments for easy program generation, reduced fine tuning, and the addition of data analysis software, repair station software and integrated database.

Some key features of the VT-S720 include:

  • New 3D Reconstruction Technology
  • Improved User Interface
  • Standard IPC-A-610 Programming Settings
  • Stable Inspection without Noise
  • Repair Software Function
  • Integrated Database Solution

The VT-S720 trumps the earlier VT-S700 model with several upgrades including inspection criteria which has changed from a ‘Logic Selection’ method that used 2D measurement, to our new ‘3D reconstruction measurement technology’,” said Chris Speck, AOI Business Unit Manager at Omron Inspection Systems. “This new technology is impressive, as it allows customers to inspect their products with criteria that automatically adjusts to the IPC-A-610 inspection specifications.

VT-RNSII: Cost-Effective AOI Platform for In-Line and Benchtop

The VT-RNSII in-line post-reflow inspection system and VT-RNSII-ptH benchtop model utilize faster shutter speeds and improved image processing to perform inspections 20 percent faster than the original VT-RNS series. This combination allows faster throughput and more detailed inspections of densely populated boards within the same cycle time. The VT-RNSII uses Omron’s patented, proven Color Highlight system which delivers superior solder joint illumination by providing 3-dimensional information from a 2-dimensional image. This Color Highlight system utilizes RGB LED’s in a dome configuration which ensures consistent inspection regardless of component placement angles. The 3-CCD camera used in the system enhances solder shape recognition accuracy by obtaining three times the information of a conventional 1-CCD camera.

The VT-RNSII offers high resolution of up to 10 ìm that supports inspection of components as small as 01005 and 12 mil pitch. Optical Character Verification capability is standard. Omron’s EzTS program generation software makes it easy for anyone to create and implement initial programs tailored to the PCB in just a few minutes. The flexible VT-RNSII machine platform also includes models for paste inspection and pre-reflow component placement inspection.

VP5200: High Speed 3D SPI Platform

The VP5200 in-line, high-speed 3D solder paste inspection system completes inspection cycles two times faster than conventional models, using the highly accurate phase shift method to measure height. Simplified programming enables program generation times of less than 10 minutes, and one-touch operation through touch panel control improves operator efficiency. The VP5200 offers high accuracy and repeatability for height inspection (within 1 ìm) and volume inspection (within 3 percent). Available models offer horizontal resolution of 15 ìm or 25 ìm.

Omron Inspection Systems leads the AOI market with the fastest production speeds, 3D imaging, and patented technology providing increased productivity and high quality inspection capability. Omron introduced an in-line X-ray inspection system with the industry’s fastest and most accurate inspection capability utilizing CT technology. Omron’s comprehensive line of AOI-X-ray inspection equipment, from bench-top to in-line systems, provides a total SMT solution fully compatible with Omron’s Qup-Navi Software suite for true root-cause defect analysis and total SMT quality improvement. Headquartered in Kyoto, Japan, OMRON Corporation is a multi-billion-dollar, diversified company with business units producing industrial automation products, electronic components, healthcare equipment and ticketing systems. The Pan-American headquarters is located in Schaumburg, Illinois, USA.
