PRESS RELEASE AUGUST 02

MSC PARTNERS WITH COMTECH

Leading European Contract Electronics Manufacturer (CEM), MSC, is forging a strategic partnership with leading communication infrastructure solutions company, Comtech (Comtech Holdings Ltd), for the high volume assembly of its innovative Internet enabled communication modules (GSM, GPRS, ISDN, ETHERNET and PSTN) for various applications including the vending industry.

Comtech provides complete communication infrastructure solutions that can enable utility meters, industrial measurement systems and EPOS terminals among many other devices - to communicate with a central site. This provides customers with many cost savings and at the same time enables business decisions to be made based on real-time information from remote locations.

The partnership between the two companies has been developed locally in the UK, with all of Comtechs products being manufactured and supported by MSC Scotland. MSC Scotland is the UK design and manufacturing arm of this long established European leader in electronic systems manufacturing and franchised component distribution, which also boasts some 100 Engineers within their design and development group.

Nat Edington, Director of MSC Scotland said: "We are delighted to be working with such an innovative company to help develop and manufacture their range of exciting new web-enabled technologies. Comtech have invested, and continue to invest heavily in hardware and software development, and ISP services which has placed them as industry leaders in their field as technology enablers for businesses requiring communication with their remote equipment."

MSC has already successfully completed the New Product introduction (NPI) process for Comtech's EUR-MODEM-24 and OEM-MODEM-34 products, and has subsequently taken these products into high volume manufacture. The two companies are now working on the NPI of Comtechs new OEM-GPRS-2, a GPRS/GSM OEM module optimised for use in embedded Machine-to-Machine (M2M) applications, with high volume manufacture planned for mid-August.

Barry Lowe, managing director of Comtech, commented: "We were looking for a single CEM that could demonstrate long term stability, and the highest standards of quality and service delivery for all of our manufacturing requirements. With MSC, we gain the benefits from a successful, diverse group in terms of financial resources and leverage in material procurement through MSCs direct relationships with component manufacturers.

Crucially, we also benefit from local support in MSC Scotland, that gives us the focus and personal service we are looking for."

Comtech (Comtech Holdings Ltd) design and manufacture communication infrastructure solutions for Machine-Machine (M2M) applications, enabling connectivity to remote equipment, to obtain and facilitate business decisions based on real-time information. The company have created mWEAVE software for Enterprise Management integration, mWEB hardware (GSM/GPRS, ISDN, ETHERNET and PSTN) for remote equipment integration and ISP services that automatically transport information between remote equipment and back office management systems using Internet Protocols. Comtechs solutions are optimised for the total system needs of any embedded application.

MSCs unique engineering capability is the reason why many leading-edge technology companies choose to work with them, and MSC has a proven track record of providing ASIC, modular and system level design, as well as Design For Manufacture (DFM) of new and existing products.
