Ifr Adds Fast Pulse Modulation to 2026a Multisource Generator

Jan 15, 2002

Wichita, Kan. -- December 3, 2001 -- IFR Systems, Inc. (Nasdaq: IFRS) today announced it has increased the speed of the 2026A 2.05 GHz signal generator's pulse modulator to 15 nanoseconds. By replacing the pulse modulator in the 2026A, IFR has increased the speed of the pulse modulation rise and fall time to meet the measurement needs of radar, antenna and electronic countermeasures (ECM) applications.

Unlike competitive instruments, the 2026 RF signal generators are the only RF signal generators that combine up to three signal generators in a single instrument. The multisource generators save customers money, valuable rack space, and time spent calibrating and combining separate signal sources.

The 2026A with Option 118 provides fast pulse modulation along with the ability to configure two or three independent carriers. Option 118 offers on/off ratios of typically >80 dB with a rise and fall time of 15 ns typical. The 15 ns rise and fall time pulse capability can be delivered on each of the two or three individual outputs or on the single output of the internal combiner. Each signal source can be controlled independently in both frequency and level, and each has its own amplitude, frequency, phase and pulse modulation capability. All parameters can be entered from the front panel keyboard and a rotary control can be used to adjust most settings.

Ideal for ECM testing of antennas and radar

The 2026A with Option 118 is ideal for engineers involved in the design and manufacture of pulse receivers for military and commercial applications. Option 118 is designed for ECM testing of pulse receivers, such as radar, or for testing antenna diversity.

In systems with antenna diversity, two or more antenna and receiver blocks are used to receive the same off-air signal and the system is designed to select the strongest of the signals and respond to it. An example is IFF (Identify Friend or Foe) systems fitted to aircraft where one of the antennas typically does not have a line-of-sight view of the ground transponders. The 2026A with Option 118 can be used to route separate carriers, each carrying pulse modulation, into the receivers at the same carrier frequency. The signal level to each receiver can be independently adjusted to check for correct antenna changeover.

About the 2026 Signal Sources Family

The 2026 family is the industry's only multisource broadband signal generator. Unlike other signal sources, it can be configured with two or three high-performance, high-power, fully calibrated RF signal sources in a single instrument. Using a 2026A equipped with Option 118 is an economical way to perform ECM tests without having to spend extra time and money to buy, connect and calibrate two or three signal sources for one test system. The 2026A has a built-in combiner, switches and cables, eliminating uncertainty when connecting separate boxes for two- and three-tone testing.

Price and Availability

The 2026A is priced at U.S. $18,568 and is available in four to six weeks upon receipt of order. The 2026A with Option 118 installed is priced at U.S. $23,576 and is available in four to six weeks upon receipt of order. Option 118 is available only on new 2026A signal sources.
