City of Loveland Mobilizes GIS Operations with GiveMePower's PowerCAD CE

Oct 09, 2002

Heralding a new era for small city Geographical Information System (GIS) processing, the City of Loveland, Colorado is reducing costs and improving efficiencies by combining PowerCAD CE(TM) from GiveMePower Corporation (OTCBB:GMPW), a "go anywhere" mobile/wireless handheld CAD system, with AutoCAD Map, a popular desktop GIS system from Autodesk, Inc. (NASDAQ:ADSK).

Although the City of Loveland lacked the substantial capital needed to implement a more costly solution, in order to meet its future requirements, the City required a way for its field staff and external contractors to remotely access critical, up-to-date municipal mapping data housed in the City's AutoCAD Map GIS computer system. After months of research, the City selected PowerCAD CE running on Microsoft's Windows CE-based Pocket PCs as a powerful, yet simple to use mobile/wireless extension to AutoCAD Map, successfully integrating the two software systems in a matter of hours.

"As a small municipality, we simply could not afford the expensive GIS solutions that our larger counterparts could," says Stephen Krajewski, GIS Specialist, Water and Power Department, City of Loveland. "Our Water and Power and Land Records Departments are constantly providing engineers, field crews, locators and other contractors access to maps and drawings from our master file. Before implementing PowerCAD CE, we were only able to provide this information in a 290-page printed map book, which is very costly to produce and update."

"By adding PowerCAD CE as our mobile GIS extension, I can now take digital maps to the field, displaying and editing them directly on my Compaq iPAQ Pocket PC. This not only reduces the need for map books, it ensures we are working with and updating the latest information. I could not do this with any other mobile software we tried," Krajewski concluded.

Bill Walton, President and CEO of GiveMePower commented, "Our PowerCAD CE is the only mobile CAD system that provides the power of a desktop CAD system on handheld Windows CE computers. This lets clients like the City of Loveland instantly mobilize their workforce without having to change their existing systems and practices. There is a real demand in small municipalities for this combination of full-featured mobile CAD in a GIS environment."

With hundreds of intuitive and industry compliant commands, PowerCAD CE runs as a completely self-contained portable CAD system, or as a mobile extension for PowerCAD Pro(TM), AutoCAD and other leading desktop CAD and GIS systems. For advanced mobile CAD users, PowerCAD CE Pro features advanced 2D and 3D functionality and complete system customization using LISP and Visual C++ programming.

PowerCAD mobile and desktop software solutions are available for purchase and free trial from the GiveMePower website at http://www.givemepower.com., or by calling 888-97-POWER. Agent and developer partner inquiries are welcome.
