Exhibiting at the What’s New In Electronics exhibition (WNIE), Altus, a leading distributor of capital equipment for electronics assembly, presented Scorpion Automotive with the Yamaha Z:LEX YSM20 High Specification, High Output, Dual Gantry Pick and Place Mounter, which was specifically adapted to meet the company’s requirements.

Scorpion Automotive, a world leader in the design, manufacture and supply of automotive electronic devices for the Original Equipment and Aftermarket sectors has recently increased its manufacturing facility in Lancashire due to an expanding range of products and rising export demand. Scorpion begun an ongoing capital investment programme with a new state-of-the art PCB production line, complementing its established in-house manufacturing facility.

Having already invested in equipment supplied by Altus the company’s latest addition, the Yamaha Z:LEX YSM20 will help in their quest to increase production.

Darrel Murgatroyd, Production Engineering Manager at Scorpion Automotive said; “Scorpion needed to implement a rapid long-term expansion plan which incorporated flexible platforms, in volume. Altus supplied Yamaha Surface Mounters and solder paste printers, together with YJ Link handling equipment, which serves everything from entry level right through to higher volume capabilities.

“We were determined to keep manufacturing on our shores, and by investing in a new PCB production line we have achieved this. The Yamaha equipment in particular, has helped us to improve our efficiency, quality, attrition rate and volume.”

Z:LEX YSM20 caters to different production processes required for a wide variety of products, and features the world's fastest mounting speed in its class (under optimum conditions) at 90,000 CPH. It also has the benefit of combining features found in Yamaha’s models - the single-head, single-beam high-speed general-purpose modular mounter YS100; and the multi-functional wide-range modular mounter YS88.

Tony Sweetman, Altus Sales Manager said: “Altus has already supplied Scorpion with a range of equipment to ensure their PCB production line delivers the required output and quality.

Together with Scorpion, we carefully selected the right equipment for them to achieve the production rates required to fulfil their growing business. Delivery of the new Yamaha Z:LEX YSM20 will further help in achieving the quality handling, reliability and efficiency that the company work to.”
