Alchemy Extends its Capabilities with New Machine Investment from Altus

Sep 23, 2021

Following consultation with Altus Group, Alchemy Technical Consulting Ltd., leading provider of turnkey tailor-made solutions, has invested in state-of-the-art pick-and-place technology from Essemtec. Capital investment in the ‘Puma’ will increase capacity for the company and ensure high precision production to meet today’s demanding electronics environment.

Having used Essemtec’s Paraquada SMD pick-and-place machine previously, Alchemy is leveraging the next-generation Puma platform for its many benefits. Puma is the world’s best high speed pick-and-place solution which can also be used in ultra-flexible, rapid prototyping developments. With different modules available the system can grow with the customer’s requirements for performance and processes.

Jamie Hyslop, Alchemy Technical Consulting Managing Director said: “We are delighted to add a new pick and place system capability to our production environment to support our growing production requirements.

“Having used the Essemtec FLX and then the Paraquda thereafter, it made a lot of sense for us to invest in Essemtec and their trusted solutions. The latest of the range, and the 4 spindle Puma system, offers us higher throughput capabilities but with the same level of flexibility which is what we need in our high mix, low volume manufacturing setting. An added bonus was that we could reuse the existing feeders that we have as well as use the upgraded HyQ feeders if the application requires it.”

Puma offers many advances; as well as high speed placement and dispensing in a single pass through, it also has linear motors and a mineral cast frame, providing exceptional speed, stability, and accuracy making it perfectly suited for Alchemy’s requirements. It also features upgraded feeder technology and the latest GUI all adding to its innovative capabilities.

Tony Sweetman, Altus Sales Manager added: “I have really enjoyed this project with Jamie and the team at Alchemy. It is great to see more Essemtec installations in the UK and Ireland now that we are supporting them in these regions.

“Alchemy is the perfect fit for the Essemtec’s equipment due to their high mix, low volume and large component range. For many sites in the UK and Ireland, specifically small OEMs and CEMs, pure speed of placement is less of a priority than quick changeover and feeder count and in that area, Essemtec are quite difficult to look past. I would like to Congratulate Jamie and the Alchemy team, we are looking forward to working more closely with them in the future.”
