March 17, 2015 – Rolling Meadows, IL – Panasonic Factory Solutions Company of America has won two New Product Introduction (NPI) Awards for its newly introduced NPM-D3 component placement machine and Multi Recognition Camera. The awards were accepted by the company’s president, Faisal Pandit, at a ceremony during IPC APEX in San Diego, CA. Mr. Pandit commented, “Panasonic Factory Solutions is honored to receive these awards as testament to our deliberate focus to be the best total solutions provider—delivering hardware, software, and process solutions emphasizing continuous improvement and innovation.”
The new Panasonic NPM-D3 continues in the steps of its award-winning predecessor with interchangeable dispensing, placement, and inspection heads, however, new enhancements further increase productivity. The NPM-D3 now handles a component range spanning 03015mm microchips to massive 100x90mm components up to 28mm tall. A new base frame, redesigned placement head, and award-winning Multi Recognition Camera improve placement accuracy by 25%, boosting IPC-9850 throughput 30% to an industry-leading 38,078 cph per square meter.
The revolutionary Multi Recognition Camera combines up to three unique imaging capabilities into a single system: 2D alignment, chip thickness inspection, and 3D coplanarity. By combining multiple imaging capabilities previously offered as separate options into one camera, Panasonic has reduced user cost, improved quality and boosted performance. More importantly, the vision system improves yield by precisely identifying mispicked microchips, lifted leads and inverted ICs, recognizing missing or deformed bumps, and inspecting nozzle tips to help ensure high pick rates. Of special interest to manufacturers, the Multi Recognition Camera eliminates the historical challenges they faced when configuring a machine vision system based on a dizzying list of options which often resulted in excessive spending, incorrect configurations, inadequate capabilities, and reduced production quality.
The Multi Recognition Camera and the numerous other NPM-D3 innovations extend to the new NPM-W2. In addition, the NPM-W2 amplifies the original NPM-W capabilities with enhanced board handling. Available in either single lane or dual lane, the machine provides the ability to handle PCBs up to 1,490 x 550mm (58.7 x 21.6”)—ideal for long LED panels or large industrial boards.
Sponsored by Circuits Assembly, the NPI Awards program is an annual celebration of product excellence in electronics surface mount assembly. Premier products based on the finest examples of creative advancement in technology are awarded by a distinguished panel of industry experts.
