electronica automotive conference hosts exhibits and programs interlinking automotive electronics theory and practice

Jul 03, 2008

Munich, Germany, July 2, 2008 --- electronica automotive conference will present a multi-faceted program for the automobile - electronics industry. An automotive exhibition and conference will be combined to provide a rich learning environment in which visitors can understand and explore the benefits of modern automotive electronics such as greater comfort, increased safety and reduced CO2 emissions.

This rich learning environment is enhanced by closely tying the comprehensive exhibition, automotive conference and the electronics forum. The latter primarily focuses on software in practical applications.

The automotive-electronics is expected to grow substantially over the next few years. European market researcher Strategy Analytics predicts that the global automotive electronics market will grow to $220 billion by 2014.

Automotive Conference

The electronica automotive conference will serve as a platform for the entire industry, fostering communication between companies and attendees and providing the stage for announcing new trends in electronics technology. The electronica automotive conference takes place on November 10th and 11th at the International Congress Center Munich (ICM). Using the slogan "electronics meets automotive", experienced speakers will give talks on current and future technologies, strategies and trends over the two days of the conference.

Ian Riches, Director of Global Automotive Practice at the market research company Strategy Analytics, will discuss the challenges for developers and suppliers of very low cost automotive electronics and semiconductors in his talk on "Ultra Low Cost Cars - Opportunities and Challenges". He will also present the most promising automotive applications.

Peter Lck, Senior Manager at Volkswagen Powertrain Development, will take a look at the future of the electric automobile. His talk on "Electrification of Powertrains at Volkswagen" will illustrate electric powertrains and their effect on the storage battery, electric drive and the entire vehicle design.

"Demands and Realisation of Automotive Power Electronics" given by Hans-Peter Feustel, Continental Automotive, will focus on the challenges of power electronics in hybrid vehicles. He analyses mechanical and thermal-mechanical loads and their effect on the design of hybrid power supply systems.

Expert speakers are also expected from BMW, Delphi, Sharp, Valeo and Volvo as well as ELMOS Semiconductor, Freescale Semiconductor, Panasonic Industrial Europe, STMicroelectronics and Tyco Electronics AMP. A total of 20 talks on specific subjects are planned over the two days of the conference.

The complete program of the "electronica automotive conference" will be available at http://www.electronica.de/en starting mid June 2008.

Automotive Electronics Exhibition

Concurrent with the conference, the electronica trade fair will start on November 11, 2008. A total of about 3,000 exhibitors in 14 exhibition halls are expected at the world's leading trade fair for electronic components, systems and applications with approximately 1,250 exhibitors presenting automotive applications. Here, the theory of the "electronica automotive conference" merges with the practical aspects of the electronics automotive forum to be held in Hall A6.

The exhibition draws executives from the major automotive companies. For example, electronica 2006 hosted representatives from Fiat, Peugeot, Nissan, Honda, BMW, Toyota, Daimler, Porsche, VW, MAN, Ford, Audi, Opel, Renault, Rolls-Royce, Skoda and Volvo as well as Bosch, Alpine, Hella, TRW, Valeo, Visteon, Conti VDO, Harman/Becker, Johnson Controls, Lear, Kostal and Magneti Marelli.
