Specialty Coating Systems to present Specialized Coatings for Advanced Medical Devices Webinar

May 18, 2022

Specialty Coating Systems (SCS) is pleased to announce that it will hold its next webinar on Tuesday, June 7, 2022 at 2 p.m. EDT. The webinar entitled, “Specialized Coatings for Advanced Medical Devices” will be presented by Rakesh Kumar, Ph.D., Vice President of Technology, and Dick Molin, Medical Market Manager. The webinar is now open for registration at: scswebinars.com.

Today’s medical devices perform increasingly critical roles in healthcare, with many offering improved performance and function due to the use of conformal coatings. Functional properties most frequently sought with coatings are barrier protection, electrical insulation and surface modification.

This webinar will provide deeper insight into these functional needs by offering examples of critical devices and components that benefit from high-performance coatings and will review how engineers and designers fill those needs by examining a number of specialized coatings, their processes and properties. The presentation also will provide key information and guidance regarding cleanliness and adhesion considerations.

Molin is the Medical Market Manager for Specialty Coating Systems. His focus includes expansion of SCS’ medical market activities and new medical applications for SCS Parylene, liquid, ALD and multi-layer conformal coating services and technologies. Molin has 35 years of experience in product and process development, including more than 20 years at SCS where he has actively worked with advanced materials, processes and applications. He earned his bachelor’s degree in Materials Science Engineering from the University of Arizona and holds a Master of Business Administration in Technology Management from the University of Phoenix.

Dr. Kumar leads SCS’ R&D group and manages Parylene R&D activities worldwide. He has more than 30 years of extensive experience in advanced polymeric materials and their applications in medical devices, electronics, MEMS, sensors, LEDs and nanotechnology. Dr. Kumar earned his doctoral degree in organic Chemistry from India and completed his post-doctorate work in Polymer Chemistry and Interfacial Adhesion at the UCL, U.K. He is co-author of a book and has several published papers, book chapters and patents.
