Innovative design and manufacturing yields robust assembly processes for LED technologies.

Denis Barbini, PhD, Associate Director of Universal Instruments’ Advanced Process Lab (APL), will present a technical session entitled LED Electronics – A Guide to Developing a Manufacturing Process at the LED Assembly, Reliability & Testing (A.R.T.) Symposium in Atlanta, GA on November 17–19, 2015. The presentation will examine key considerations for the design and manufacturing of LED products, driven by research performed by the APL.
The LED A.R.T. Symposium provides attendees with information to bridge the gap between the semiconductor physics and the architectural design-level issues in the LED supply chain. This symposium is the premier forum for the industry to explore the problems faced and offer solutions.
“The value in adopting LED technology is clear and wide-ranging, including reduced energy consumption, extended lifetime, and added functionality,” said Barbini. “However, implementing sound manufacturing processes to successfully deliver end products to the market requires a formal understanding of many critical factors.” He added, “This symposium brings together industry leaders who are looking to share experiences and achievements in this arena.”

Barbini’s technical session will take place on the first day of the symposium, Tuesday, November 17, at 10:30 a.m. The presentation will reference several LED case studies from the APL’s research and leverage the findings to provide attendees with a blueprint to manage a full range of contemporary LED technologies. He noted that the primary objectives are to “drive down costs while achieving high yield and product quality – all while adapting to a dynamically changing and emerging field of design and form factors.”

Universal’s APL offers comprehensive research, analytical and advanced assembly services which enable manufacturers to realize rapid product introduction, maximize yield and optimize reliability
