Sanmina-SCI Introduces Global Rack System

Jun 06, 2003

Toronto, Ontario, Canada (June 4, 2003) Sanmina-SCI Corporation (Nasdaq NM:SANM), a leading global electronics contract manufacturer and provider of Enclosure Systems, today

announced the release of its newly developed Global Rack System (GRS). GRS (patent

pending) is a high performance 19-inch Enclosure Server Rack that sets the standard for

flexibility, functionality, and structural integrity.

"The GRS was designed to work with the challenging trend of form factor "compaction" while managing the escalating growth in energy density," explained Product Manager Peter Jeffery, Sanmina-SCI Enclosures Division.

According to Jeffery, Sanmina-SCI kept several key design targets in focus during the development of the GRS:

High strength to weight ratio, to provide structural rigidity and

increased space efficiency with minimum footprint;

Maximum air exchange to maintain the performance of high-end servers;

Suitability for both OEM and End User applications;

Design for Manufacture globally in Sanmina-SCI facilities; and

Compatibility with Sanmina-SCI's Ecobay products - a companion line of leading edge enclosure systems capable of supporting extreme thermal energy loads using a patented closed loop cooling system.

The GRS was developed at Sanmina-SCI's design facility in Toronto, Ontario, with extensive input from the company's Enclosure Systems designers and product specialists in North America, Europe, and Asia.

"We have a winner here," said Michael Clarke, President of Sanmina-SCI Enclosure Systems. "GRS is a sleek, robust product that addresses the needs of current and future high-end computing infrastructure. The manufacturing techniques designed into this product result in costs that will be extremely market competitive. It's what we call 'Geo-Flexible' -- it can be easily produced at any of our manufacturing facilities around the world."

The GRS is currently being introduced to major Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs) and will be adapted to individual customer requirements. A commercial version is being prepared and will be rolled out in the near future to distribution partners for local availability in the major global markets Sanmina-SCI serves.
