Flame Alarm Control Panel

A fire alarm control panel is a safety appliance that commercial buildings typically require to set into motion several tasks that could save lives and minimize property damage. The point of a fire alarm control panel is to perform a wide range of life-saving and property-protecting tasks and activate a quick emergency response when there’s a fire so every occupant in the building can be alert of the incoming fire danger. Some advanced fire panels on the other hand can call the fire department, some can even activate the building’s sprinkler system to try to put the fire out fast before the situation gets out of control. Some fire alarm control panel will go even further and locking and unlocking doors, disabling elevators, turn off electricity or shutting off or turning on ventilation. The capabilities of the fire alarm control panel depend on which fire panels are installed. Every fire alarm control panel act as a middle man between devices that watch for hazards and devices tasked with alerting people to danger or problems with fire protection systems.

When a fire starts, a smoke detector, heat detector, hand-activated pull switch, or manual call point sends a signal to a fire alarm control panel. The fire alarm control panel can’t detect fire on its own, but it can respond to signals it gets from the systems that detect smoke or heat. Fire alarm control panel will then be activated upon receiving the signal, loud noise and strong lights will be emitted to warn people of the fire, and then it may send a signal to the fire department or alarm company to get emergency response crews to rush to the building and put out the flames.

There are currently two types of fire alarm control panel, the conventional type and the addressable model. Conventional fire alarm control panel have been around for years. They work by responding to changes in an electrical current, such as when a smoke detector identifies smoke and changes the current in response. Once the fire alarm control panel detects this current, it sounds the alarm. The conventional fire panel is installed in different zones, such as the first floor, second floor, etc. thus, they are often called a zoned panel.

The newer and more advanced fire alarm control panel, addressable panel. It runs off modern technology since it features a microprocessor that sends data from devices in the building to the panel, rather than sensing changes in the electrical currents. As every device have its own address, the addressable fire alarm control panel can identify which device the signal is coming from. This allows the fire alarm control panel to locate the device that has sent signals to the fire alarm control panel.
