IPC- Association Connecting Electronics Industries® has received overwhelming praise from IPC SMEMA Council Electronics Assembly Process Exhibition and Conference (APEX) 2001 exhibitors.
With more than 12,900 total visitors (attendees and exhibitors), this second-year event saw an increase of more than 20 percent in overall attendance from the 2000 event. The 394 exhibitors filled more than 168,000 net square feet of exhibit space at the San Diego Convention Center.
"If attendees are looking for machines, materials and manufacturers, then APEX is the best spot to find this information," said Cal Driscoll, equipment advisory board coordinator, ACI.
"APEX 2001 was a successful event," said S. Michael Buscher, president, Assembleon America. "The quality and quantity of attendees we had at our booth, including international visitors, makes APEX a global event for Assembleon."
The exhibitors at APEX also had success in reaching the best possible customers on the show floor.
"Attendance at APEX 2001 was great; we saw a nearly 30 percent increase over last year's booth traffic," said Tim Mahan, director marketing and communications, GenRad. "The number of international customers was higher this year, and the flow of floor traffic was steady throughout all three days."
APEX's gala reception was also branded a success by attendees. More than 5,000 people attended the Wednesday night event to enjoy live music provided by KC and the Sunshine Band, games, food and drink, and to take full advantage of a great networking experience.
"The Gala Extravaganza, that's a big word to use for just one party, but after arriving, I think that even understated it," said Ken L. Bliss, president and CEO, Bliss Industries. "WOW is the best word I can think of on how to describe the APEX 2001 show."
With APEX 2001 over, a number of exhibitors have said that they can't wait unit next year's show.
"IPC SMEMA Council has really put together a great show," said Steven LeBoeuf, president, NEA. "The word is already spreading and we're sure next year's event will bring in even more traffic."
APEX 2002 will take place January 22-24, 2002, also at the San Diego Convention Center.

APEX has been organized by the IPC SMEMA Council in response to an industry need for a trade show that is cost-effective and fair for exhibitors, and highly focused on the products and technology of the electronics assembly industry. This approach, coupled with a premier conference program, organized by the industry, delivers the most attractive package to exhibition visitors. APEX features all segments of the electronics assembly industry, from bare boards to tested assemblies, and is the only show in North America that showcases machinery from every major pick-and-place equipment manufacturer.
IPC is a US-based trade association dedicated to the competitive excellence and financial success of its more than 2,700 member companies which represent all facets of the electronic interconnection industry, including design, printed wiring board manufacturing and electronics assembly. As a member-driven organization and leading source for industry standards, training, market research and public policy advocacy, IPC supports programs to meet the needs of a $44 billion US industry employing more than 400,000 people.
