Company selects BX benchtop AOI after exhaustive evaluation and research of competitive systems
Nordson YESTECH, a subsidiary of Nordson Corporation (Nasdaq: NDSN) and a leading supplier of automated optical and x-ray inspection systems for the electronics industry, announced today that it has been selected by Mer-Mar, Inc., a full-service contract electronics manufacturer, as their AOI supplier. Nordson YESTECH’s BX benchtop AOI will be used for automated inspection of printed circuit boards at Mer-Mar’s 22,000 square foot facility, located in Hesperia, California.
Nordson YESTECH was selected by Mer-Mar, Inc. after an extensive evaluation of various AOI systems. Mer-Mar, Inc. has been a premier contract manufacturer for over 35 years, specializing in high reliability applications, including medical electronics, first responder, industrial and aerospace assemblies. Over the years, they have evaluated many AOI systems but were unimpressed. They had maintained a long-standing reputation for extremely low rejection rates, and approached AOI with skepticism. They realized however, as boards became increasingly more complex and dense, that AOI would be necessary to maintaining their quality excellence. As a contract manufacturer who runs hundreds of part numbers, they found programming times on systems they evaluated were nearly as time consuming as visual inspection. This changed when they evaluated the BX benchtop AOI. They found the BX delivered not only the accuracy and reliability they demanded, but was also easy to use and program, which was paramount to Mer-Mar, Inc. Nordson YESTECH also provided them with meticulous training and customer service. “The BX has been an extremely valuable asset to our quality process, with its intuitive programming and powerful inspection capabilities,” said Jeff Menkes, Vice President and Co-owner of Mer-Mar, Inc. “Verifying part placement and solder quality is markedly faster, and false positions are no longer an issue. The BX has helped us improve our process, catching the rare faults in machine placed parts. We couldn’t be more pleased with the results we have achieved with the BX and look forward to acquiring more YESTECH systems as we continue to grow,” he added.
Nordson YESTECH's BX benchtop’s advanced 5 megapixel color camera imaging technology provides fast and accurate PCB inspection with exceptional defect coverage. The system inspects solder joints and verifies correct part assembly enabling users to improve quality and increase throughput. The optional four side viewing cameras add additional inspection capabilities found only on in-line systems. The BX benchtop AOI delivers a complete inspection solution, providing advanced automated inspection of:
- Solder defects
- Lead defects
- Component presence and position
- Correct part / polarity
- Through-hole parts
- Paste
Programming the BX is fast and intuitive. Operators typically take less than 1 hour to create a complete inspection program including solder inspection. The BX utilizes a standard package library to simplify training and ensure program portability across manufacturing lines. Programs created with the BX are also compatible with Nordson YESTECH's complete line of AOI systems. The BX is equally effective for paste, pre / post-reflow and even final assembly inspection. Remote programming maximizes machine utilization and real-time SPC monitoring provides a valuable yield enhancement solution for any application.
“The team at YESTECH does a fabulous job training and providing us service and support,” said Menkes. “The level of service and follow-up they provide to their customers is truly impressive. They made our decision easy. They are also proudly manufactured in the U.S, which is important to our organization.”
"It's been a great experience working with Mer-Mar,” said Kevin Garcia, Nordson YESTECH Regional Sales Manager. “We enjoy being a part of their quality assurance program and strive to provide them the best possible service and support, ensuring their success. We look forward to continuing our strong relationship with Mer-Mar in the future."
