Gen3 Systems Limited, a specialist British manufacturer and distributor, today announced the appointment of Christopher Hunt, Ph.D., as Chief Technology Officer. Dr. Hunt joins Gen3 with a range of practical, academic and on-the-job experience working with key players from a wide range of disciplines, including materials science, physics and chemistry.
Prior to joining Gen3, Dr. Hunt was a Principle Research Scientist at NPL for more than 43 years, where he built and led the electronics interconnect team of 10 scientists. There, his team won more than 10 major collaborative research projects with 60 industry partners (many international) in the last 10 years, including significant ongoing projects for major OEMs in Europe.
Dr. Hunt graduated from Surrey University with his Ph.D. in Material Science and a BSc (Hons) in Physics. He is the Chair of both the IEC TC91 Electronics assembly and the UK BSI EPL 501 national committee following TC91, vice-chair of IMAPS and a member of the steering group of SMART Group, and co-inventor of two patent-pending technologies: smart textiles, and recyclable electronics. Additionally, he has published more than 45 peer reviewed papers and 139 NPL reports and numerous conference papers.
With experience in electronic interconnects, solders, conductive adhesives, PCB technology, coatings, reliability assessment (joint reliability, electrochemical corrosion), whisker mitigation, printed electronics, circular economy, smart textiles, Dr. Hunt will bring his expertise and innovative approach to continue to grow Gen3’s reputation as a technology leader.
Graham Naisbitt, Managing Director, stated, “Whilst at the NPL, Dr. Hunt’s team were responsible for significant developmental changes to our AutoSIR and AutoCAF instruments, as well as our MUST Solderability test system. We have worked closely together for more than 20 years in Standards Development programs that contributed so much to both NPL and Gen3 Systems. It is an honour and a privilege to have Dr. Hunt join us.”
Dr. Hunt is very excited to be joining Gen3 Systems at this time with the challenges in reliability testing. “I am delighted to be able to contribute to the technology advances in this field which will be fantastically rewarding, and I am really looking forward to working with the team in Farnborough,” added Dr. Hunt.
