Siborg Systems Inc. will be offering a discount for students and educational institutes on all devices and accessories in their online store until the end of August 2017. The discount will reflect the amount purchased. The sale includes LCR-meters such as LCR-Reader and Smart Tweezers, as well as Siborg's other devices for Surface Mount Technology.
Siborg has offered solutions for testing and troubleshooting PCBs and SMT since the early 2000's with their Smart Tweezers devices. building on this success over the years, Siborg has also created the LCR-Reader devices that offer the same functionality at a lower price.
The unique design sets Smart Tweezers and LCR-Reader apart from other multimeters; the device combines a set of gold-plated tweezer probes with a lightweight LCR-meter. When the device is holding the component, it will automatically determine the type of component and best test range before measuring with high basic accuracy. All measurment values, including any secondary values (ESR), test range and component type are shown instantly on the OLED display.
"The ability of LCR-Reader to quickly identify and measure te value of a component is especially important in a school labe where students do their electronic experiments," says Michael Obrecht, the Director of R&D at Siborg, "Modern components are very small and mostly not visually identifiable. Once you put a few on a desk together, they become indistinguishable from one another and end up thrown away. With just a touch, LCR-Reader and Smart Tweezers devices are able to tell you exactly which component is which and thus save time and money."
LCR-Reader is a lower-cost alternative to the Smart Tweezers devices. This device offers the same function as Smart Tweezers, with automatic and manual measurements, but with a lower basic accuracy of 0.5% and a few less features. Siborg created a new calibration fixture in 2016 that allows the device to be calibrated and issued an NIST traceable calibration certificate.
Smart Tweezers offers a higher basic accuracy of 0.2% and more features such as component sorting, offset subtraction and continuity/diode/short testing. The ST-5S model has recently been adapted for a Bluetooth version.
The Smart Tweezers ST5S-BT2 allows back and forth communication from PC and devices running Android or iOS. It sends the measurement data directly to programs or dedicated apps. This data can be saved in an Excel sheet or preferred filetype for later processing or review. Remote measurement recording is a huge advantage to strict quality control and time-sensitive jobs that require each measurement to be recorded.
Siborg offers other devices for SMT testing, including:
- LED Tester Tweezers with 12 VDC output and adjustable current ratings. This device uses tweezer-probes for precise measurements and can also be connected to multimeters with 4 mm jack plugs using the included connector cable
- SMD Multimeter Test Tweezers that connect to most multimters using 4 mm jack plugs for tweezer-probe precision.
- LCR-Reader/Smart Tweezers Kelvin Probe Connector is a shielded two-wire connector that allows LCR-Reader and Smart Tweezers to perform full PCB probing. The device's wire replaces one of the tweezer probes and offers 5 different connectors suited for the job at hand. It allows the multimeter to measure components wider than the tweezers' grasp.
