Quality monitoring as an integral part of the dispensing cell saves time and space.

By integrating RTVision systems, Scheugenpflug has expanded its portfolio for automated production lines handling dispensing tasks. Applying adhesive and sealant goes hand in hand with quality assurance and there is no need for additional cycle times or space resources.

Reliability comes only from adhesive and sealant applications that have been checked 100 percent. By integrating inspection in the dispensing cell, Scheugenpflug has added yet another important automation step. To ensure optimum proven and traceable product quality, vision systems are used to check the width, position and uninterrupted application of the adhesive or sealant during application itself. The quality of application is known as soon as the adhesive or sealant has been applied. There is therefore no need for a separate cell, which saves on cycle time and resources. Operators benefit from significant cost and time savings, and from documentation and traceability even years after each individual component has been delivered.

Solution from a single source

Scheugenpflug is adhering to its philosophy of offering everything from a single source and equipping its system solutions with 2D and 3D inline inspection systems from Quiss. These image processing systems allow the production plants to “see”. They visually check and monitor the application of adhesives and sealant. The sensors are mounted directly on the application head above the nozzle. Inspection is performed in real time as the adhesive or sealant is applied, so the plant personnel know immediately whether this is “IO” or “NIO”.

Inspection with RTVision is available in 2D and 3D. The version with 2D sensors uses an LED light source as the incident light to detect the width and continuity of the application by contrasting the adhesive bead with the background. RTVision 3D uses six lasers as the light sources to evaluate the third dimension, namely height, as well.

Users benefit from the user-friendly software because the parameters are easy to set and the software indicates a clear OK / NOK. Detailed visualization means that the status is instantly visible. Any discrepancies can be immediately and easily assigned. Teach-in functionalities support the plant personnel and shorten the commissioning time. Robust, industry-proven algorithms ensure smooth 24/7 operation.

Together with Atlas Copco, Scheugenpflug once again demonstrates its expertise as a strategic innovation partner. The all-in-one solution with full integration of inspection in the dispensing station is an excellent addition to the portfolio of perfectly matched solutions. In-depth process know-how and comprehensive automation expertise enable plant operators to achieve a higher, fully documented level of quality. At the same time, rapid reaction times in process monitoring increase the productivity of the plant.
