PDC sent its Sales Director Joe Helms, Technical Service Engineer Mike Tucker, who is responsible for training individuals to become a Certified IPC-A-600 Specialist, and acting Senior Vice President Gene Weiner, who moderated the event. PDC also sponsored John Swanson, MacDermid's Director of Final Finishes, to serve as a panel member along with Indium's Senior Technical Support Engineer Eric Bastow, Harris Corporation's Manufacturing Engineer Scott Nelson, who has headed up projects for advanced manufacturing, and MC Assembly's noted bare board expert Kenneth Cowser, whose experience spans 47 years ranging from Brown Engineering in 1962 to Vice President of Advanced Board Circuitry prior to joining MC.
More than 70 attended the lunch and lively forum held at MC Assembly's technical training center in Palm Bay, FL. Topics ranged from substrates to final finishes and bridging, to tests that determine the root cause of some of the more advanced defect types. Active attendee participation kept the meeting going far beyond the allotted time.
Much of the success of the meeting can be attributed to the behind-the-scenes activity of Brian Wright of MC Assembly, in the advanced polling of members for specific soldering issues to be addressed in the forum.
After the formal meeting, Mike Tucker offered IPC-A-800-G training sessions to the 22 attending companies, presented samples of the various stages of multilayer fabrication, and distributed literature describing a robust design matrix and substrate selection. Additionally, John Swanson gave a comparison of various plated and organic finishes, and invited attendees to MacDermid's Final Finishes Webinar.
PDC also is providing support to local SMTA meetings and expanding its domestic IPC A 600G certification programs.
