An EMS firm that has found a niche serving electronics companies in the Southeastern Wisconsin area, Matrix provides small- to mid-volume assembly services for clients in a variety of industries including medical electronics, industrial drives and controls, consumer-related products and more. With ten years of proven success as a design and assembly house, Matrix’s growth recently dictated an in-line solution for its screen printing capability.
“We’ve been a DEK 248 user almost since the inception of our company,” says Bob Boss, Matrix Owner and President. “The system still works beautifully – in fact, we’ve never had to place a service call to DEK in all of these years – but it was definitely time to add an in-line platform and the Horizon 02i in combination with DEK’s VectorGuard stencil technology was the perfect solution for our business.”
With 6-Sigma production performance as standard and alignment capability of 2 Cpk @ +/- 12.5 microns, DEK’s Horizon 02i is a productivity powerhouse. Control of the system through the award-winning Instinciv V9 user interface affords simple programming and on-board training, when required. Add to this the ability to easily modify the Horizon 02i with productivity tools such as printer-adaptable dispense technology, post-print inspection capability, high-speed cleaning and automatic board support, and the Horizon delivers a future-proofed investment that is untouchable. When partnered with VectorGuard stencil technology, an interchangeable frame/foil system allowing for simplified storage, improved operator safety, environmental responsibility and quick product changeover, the Horizon 02i platform takes flexibility to a new level, particularly for high-mix manufacturers such as Matrix.
“Not only is control of the system truly effortless,” adds Boss, who was able to set up and run a program using the Instinctiv V9 software interface after only a brief demonstration. “But DEK’s forethought in machine design enabled us to use our older, fiducial-free mesh mount stencils on the Horizon 02i by programming the system to read the apertures as reference points. Though we’ve recently invested in VectorGuard technology, we still process many recurring jobs using older, traditional stencils and being able to continue using them was important to us. The entire process with DEK – from initial contact to install to first assembly – has been seamless and the speed, precision and user-friendliness of the new platform has allowed our business to become exponentially more productive.”
