Metz, Germany, invests in SIPLACE SX line

Dec 14, 2009

To this day, owner-operated Metz develops and manufactures its products in Zirndorf, Germany – for Metz an important guarantor of consistently high quality “made in Germany”. In line with this motto, Metz decided to invest in a new SIPLACE SX placement machine line to expand its production capacities. In addition to the quality provided by the SIPLACE equipment, Metz based its decision on solid financial factors, because in a direct comparison the SIPLACE SX offered better cost-of-ownership and more flexibility for future production adjustments than competitors’ products.

For more than 70 years, Metz has developed and manufactured its television sets and photo electronics in Germany, making one of the oldest German consumer electronics companies. Against this background, any investment decision is also a decision in favor of manufacturing in Germany, as Karl-Heinz Limbeck, Production Manager ELW at Metz, confirms: “The SIPLACE SX line consists of four SIPLACE SX and delivers exactly the performance we need for our production. At the same time, the line can be easily scaled up if we need more capacity without requiring us to change the line layout or invest in more machines or more floor space.”

For a successful future: Low cost of ownership

The new SIPLACE SX is the world’s first placement platform that lets the user scale placement performance and capacity independently and on demand. The interchangeable SIPLACE SX gantries, the new SIPLACE MultiStar CPP head, flexible setup and line concepts and innovative SIPLACE rental services permit electronics manufacturers for the first time to let their production “breathe” in line with their order situation. To add, reduce or transfer performance between lines, the self-calibrating, rail-mounted SX gantries can be installed and uninstalled by a single person in less than 30 minutes.

The SIPLACE SX line, consisting of four SIPLACE SX, can be easily scaled up

when Metz needs more capacity.

With its SIPLACE machines and innovative manufacturing concepts, Siemens Electronics Assembly Systems GmbH & Co. KG (SEAS) is the world’s leading manufacturer of surface mount technology (SMT) placement machines and solutions. From its early days in 1985 through 2009, the company has installed roughly 22,000 placement machines at more than 2,000 customers. Electronics manufacturers all over the world take advantage of the broad SIPLACE portfolio of products and services. SIPLACE placement machines are used in all industrial applications in fields such as telecommunications, automotive, consumer electronics and automation.
