Machine Vision Products to announce expanded range of SMT AOI solutions and Microelectronics AOI applications at APEX 2010, Las Vegas

Carlsbad, CA – April 2nd, 2010: Machine Vision Products (MVP), a leader in Automated Optical Inspection will be announcing an expanded range of AOI systems at APEX 2010 in Las Vegas. As leaders in price and performance AOI, MVP has demonstrated a high degree of adaptability of their systems throughout the 16 years of service to the industry. MVP will be exhibiting at Booth 1647.

On display at their booth will be the newest Supra-E and Ultra IV AOI solutions as well as the flexible Microelectronics based Ultra 850G.

The Supra E provides customers with the best cost to performance ratio for any AOI system. Capable of inspecting 20x20 inch boards the system utilizes MVP’s latest ease-of-use software and includes options for automatic database generation from CAD data.

The Ultra IV is MVP’s workhorse for ultra high volume production lines. The Ultra brand has been proven by its robust design to provide the highest up time of any AOI solutions on the market. With the lowest MTBF in the industry the Ultra IV builds on its predecessor’s reputation. The system is available in standard 20x20” configuration and with the XL option MVP provides inspection envelopes up to 20x30”.

The Ultra IV is also configurable as the world’s only full 2D/3D AOI machine. This dual capability configuration provides a complete line inspection solution. It can inspect boards immediately after the printer for true volumetric measurement of paste deposits, it can then inspect after the pick and place machine for pre-reflow inspection and then after the oven for industry leading post reflow inspection. This capability is performed while using a patented 3D inspection methodology for paste inspection which removes shadowing and specular noise.

MVP will also be announcing its large board Spectra system at APEX 2010. Built on the robust design of the Ultra series this system will use a dual linear stage and comes in two formats. The Spectra will be capable of inspection of boards up to 24”x24” with the Spectra XL being capable of an inspection envelope of up to 24”x36”.

MVP has a proven track record of success with a broad range of applications across both SMT and Microelectronics covering commercial, medical and defense based devices. As well as the Ultra IV and Supra-E, MVP also will have their in-line, Microelectronics focused, Ultra 850G platform on display.

The Ultra 850G exhibits the same degree of flexibility for the Semicon and Packaging industries as the Supra, Ultra and Spectra series machines. Applications on MVP’s Ultra 850G will be demonstrated which include:

Inspection of wire bond

High accuracy die placement metrology

Surface finish inspection for, foreign objects and scratches

Inspection of micro-SMT with the Ultra 850G which can be configured to 1um pixel resolution.

In addition the 850G has a host of other applications support using the same basic configuration. Configurable down to 1um pixel size the 850G can additionally inspect for:

Epoxy underfill

Glues and sealants,

3D paste and BGA

Material dimensional metrology.

Dr George T. Ayoub remarked “Our AOI technology has stood the test of time. Our expanded range of capabilities now provides AOI solutions in several different marketplaces. We provide robust, yet easy-to-use AOI for the smallest to the largest sizes of PCB assemblies. I firmly believe that MVP provides the most complete and robust set of inspection application capabilities the industry has to offer. Our Supra, Ultra and Spectra Series SMT AOI fully compliment the market requirements and our Ultra 850G have been developed to provide the broadest Semicon and Packaging AOI applications the industry has to offer.

During 2009 MVP saw its business expand during an exceptionally difficult year for the industry. With several key new customers investing in MVP’s latest technology we are well positioned to continue to provide the world’s leading AOI solutions to the marketplace as the economy recovers.

We have continued to see a very high level of sales of our Microelectronics based Ultra 850G with a constant stream of application enquiries from a wide variety of customers in diversified industries. With a sizeable installation base, we are highly confident that our Microelectronics AOI applications are, by far, the industry leader”

MVP continues to lead the global inspection arena by developing all of the product offerings. This provides a much better cost structure to the end user. Additionally, because all development is performed in-house, the support structure is second to none. With over 16 years of leadership, MVP is taking multiple steps to continue to provide the overall lowest cost of ownership when compare to any competitor globally.
