Using SN100C (040), no tin whiskers were observed in testing after 1,000 hours of exposure to the environmental condition of 85°C/85%,temperature and relative humidity.
SN100C (040) halogen-free flux-cored wire is an effective solution in preventing Sn whiskers due to corrosion of the solder surface. Different formulations of other so-called halogen-free cored-wire fluxes on various board finishes need to be carefully examined for the possible incidence of whiskers.
A highlight of the range of the new SN100C products, which includes solder paste and flux-cored wire, is that they are completely halogen-free and contain no intentional additions of fluorine (F), chlorine (Cl), bromine (Br) or iodine (I) in their formulation, while still delivering excellent wetting on all types of substrates. In addition, the SN100C alloy delivers a silver-free stable microstructure that can accommodate the long term strains and impact conditions to which a solder joint can be subjected.
Now in its 18th year, the SMT VISION Awards program is an annual celebration of product excellence in electronics surface mount assembly. Premier products based on the finest examples of creative advancement in technology in key areas are chosen by a distinguished panel of industry experts.
About Nihon Superior Co. Ltd.
Nihon Superior was founded in 1966 when it began marketing unique flux products imported from the US. The company made its mark on society by gathering the most advanced soldering and brazing technologies and products from around the world, and supplying them to companies in the metal-joining industry. A turning point for the company came when it started developing its own soldering materials and with the success of its unique SN100C lead-free solder alloy Nihon Superior has become a major player in the global market. To support the growing demand for its products Nihon Superior has established manufacturing and sales centers in Japan, China and other Asian countries and formed business partnerships with companies in other markets.
