This is a 2-day class for students who would like to learn to solder or to obtain a refresher on the subject of soldering.
This class covers the same basic soldering principles presented in our IPC-A-610 Solder Certification seminar; however the emphasis will be placed on the actual hands-on soldering techniques in lieu of the textbook theoretical concepts, and the students will not receive the IPC-A-610 certification from this training session.
Each student will be provided with a certificate of completion at the end of class.
There is also an IPC-A-610 book available for an additional cost which we highly recommend, as the materials presented are very complete, detailed, and succinct. If you have multiple associates (from one group who work in the same area) that attend our class, for cost savings, we suggest one book, to be used as a reference for the entire group. If the associates are not physically located in the vicinity of each other's work, if they wish, they may purchase a book for each to be kept close to their work station, for their convenient use.

- Proper Wire Stripping and Identifying Defects
- 2 types of strippers: Green Lee Strippers & Stripmaster
- Proper Wire Tinning: Hand solder tinning & Solder Pot tinning
- Mechanical Wrapping (Acceptable v. Defect): Eyelets, Turret, Bifurcated, Lugs
- Wire Preparation for Solder Cup Connector (Acceptable v. Defect)
- Insulation Clearance & Solder Defects - excessive, insufficient, voids, cold solder joints
- “Tricks of the Trade” to produce solder joints with ease
- Effects on solderability related to multilayer boards
- Coaxial Cable & Connector Assembly
- Proper Use of Lacing Cord: Spot Ties (Clove Stitch) & Lacing
- Lead Forming (Bends/Stress Relief): Radial & Axial Leaded Components
- Board Population / Component Installation / Proper Orientation (PTH – Plated Through Hole &
- SMT – Surface Mount Technology)
- Surface Mount Component Installation: Resistors, Capacitors, IC’s, etc. & Surface Mount Assembly

- Inspection criteria
- Proper Rework & Repair: Proper Component Removal to Avoid Costly Damage to Board/CCA & Cut Traces
- Installing Discreet Wiring, Jumper Wires, Reconnect
