Reflow oven recommendation | 12 November, 2010

Hi, The focal point of my research has been to recommend a reflow oven and develop a process for a small to low-medium production SMT soldering with the following considerations. - Lead-Free - Low to low-medium production - Forced Convection reflow - Easy to operate - No power restriction - Bench top reflow, or conveyor reflow under 10,000 dollars. I have made a list of reflow ovens I have been able to find from major vendors, and some recommendation I was able to find on smtnet.com. My question is as follows. I would like you experts in the reflow field to recommend a reliable reflow oven from the list. If you have one that I have not included on the list please feel free to mention it . I applicate your input.

Thank you Danny

I have dealt with Manncorp twice, and both times did not go well, so I do not recommend dealing with them.

I use the Mistral 260 and am quite happy with it's performance. However, it does not open like other clam-shell style ovens. I haven't needed to open it though.

I too considered the APS unit.

I have only purchased a stencil machine from Madell and was not impressed. It was so bad that I had to trash it.

Sometimes you get what you pay for, good luck in your selection. Please come back and let everyone know how your purchase performs.

Hello everyone,

Talking to my boss today I was able to determine what we're really looking for in terms of reflow soldering. The company is not looking to do a volume run; we're trying to solder chips for prototype boards, which are currently done with hot air. We design boards and would like to solder only QFN and CLP chips with the following features. - The system has to be reboots - Easy to use – minimum tuning required that people with minim engineering knowledge can use the machine (i.e. Push button to start, wait, and push button to STOP) - Reflow QFN and CLP packages only. - Perform QFN and CLP rework.

If you have used or purchased a reflow oven that has achieved the mentioned features, please recommend it. My initial research is looking into a vapor phase reflow? Your input is greatly appreciated,

Thanks

Danny

Hello Sir,

Here is a link you can take look. http://www.deksmt.com The machine I would like to recommend you is BM-W430 and BM-W630. We are a major manufacture of reflow oven and wave solder in China, till now we have distributos in more than 16 countries. We have sold more tahn 200sets oven as your requirement, customers like to form it with P&P from Autotronik,Dima,Essemtec etc. You can add me to you Skype list or send me email for quotation. dektec@vip.163.com

Hi Jack, I haven't progressed that much on the reflow project.I'll be working on it in two weeks. Although, I have few vendors that I've been communicating for more info about vapor phase reflow ovens. See the following list: Wenesco Sintronex AICT technologies a distributer from EPM-IBL of Germanu ECM out of france www.rdtechnicalsevices.com

Please lets use this thread for the pros/cons for the reflow types your looking at.

Best, Danny

When faced with high mass, high cost, sensitive PCBs and now with the added challenges of Pb-Free Vapor Phase is the only safe reflow method for component and joint integrity.

A-Tek is the National Distributor for Asscon Vapor phase reflow. Asscon has a long history and tremondous knowledge in solder reflow. We have both small batch systems, to systems with vacuum to large in-line systems.

Asscon take Vapor Phase to a new level of control. With an engineered energy transfer system that enables the circuit to be pre-heated, ramped and reflowed in a single system under an Oxygen free environment. With Zero delta T’s and ramp rates controllable with 1-4 deg/sec Asscon saturated vapor phase machinery is the solution to the new challenges of Pb Free and long term product reliability.

The fluids used today are Ozone friendly, operator safe in every regard and machine energy consumption is significantly less than convection machinery making the system less expensive to operate and Eco friendly. Simply—Vapor Phase wastes less energy, puts control in the hands of the engineers and uses Physical Constants to guarantee process stability, integrity and repeatability.

I would be happy to discuss vapor phase technology and how it can be integrated into your manufacturing proces.

Regards

Patty Chonis A-Tek
