Vitronics Soltec Intro's "5 Steps to Lead-Free Soldering"; Kicks Off European Advanced Technology Tour.
Vitronics Soltec officially introduced its "5 Steps" program to successful lead-free soldering implementation at APEX 2001, and kicked off its European Advanced Technology Tour to bring the company's message and method to the world. The "5 Steps to Successful Lead-Free Soldering" was introduced at a press conference held at the APEX conference on Wednesday, January 17. The "5 Steps" is a step by step program developed by Vitronics Soltec's Technology Group and proven successful in multiple production manufacturing environments.
Vitronics Soltec's Technology Group is comprised of more than a dozen process specialists employed globally throughout Vitronics Soltec facilities in the Netherlands, Germany, USA, and Singapore, who also work in close cooperation with world-recognized technical institutions. Their common goal is to study and define processes, and publish their findings on selected technology topics. The Technology Group has a well-equipped and unique advanced research laboratory at its disposal, incorporating a metallurgical lab, a lab for environmental testing, and an analytical lab. Additionally, two fully operational SMD lines give this Group the ability to conduct in-depth testing in an actual production environment.
The company also launched its European Advanced Technology Tour, whereby The Technology Group will host a series of instructional seminars on current high-interest topics in soldering (wave and reflow) throughout Europe during 2001. Entitled "Make The Right Connection", this seminar tour will cover key soldering issues such as lead-free soldering, selective soldering technology, and 0201 components soldering, among many others.
Each day-long session will cover such topics as planning; selection of materials and equipment; process development; thermal profiling; impacts of 0201 in mass SMT production and alternatives to "local" soldering (selective soldering); and much more, followed by an overview of market trends and a field experience report presented by a local manufacturer in each area. The seminars are co-chaired by both Dr. Barbini and Ger Jan Diepstraten, a leading expert in soldering technology and issues and also a member of the Technology Group.
The seminar schedule follows; for more information, visit http://www.vitronics-soltec.com, or contact VITRONICS SOLTEC BV, Karolusstraat 20, 4903 RJ Oosterhout, the Netherlands; Tel. 011.31.162.483000, Fax 011.31.162.483253.
