Has anyone had any experience of using High Melting Point Solder paste in production. We have started to trial some boards using the Solder Paste and are experiencing poor solder joints and solder joints that look grainy.

Hi there all, we are having problems with 2 qfp devices. grainy poorly reflowed solder joints. One 100 pin .5mm pitch, and one 64 pin .5 mm pitch . Both of these devices have a thermo pad on the back of them (pad area soldered to back of device)which

I have a connector which has very weak joints. Solder fractures easily. On inspection the solder is very grainy and full of voids. Process is 63/37 no clean. Any thoughts? Phil

Nonductile fracture!!! Sounds peculiar. In that case, stop wasting you time messing with the thermal recipe. Either your: * Components have poor solderability [test this by dipping the leads of a couple of the SSOP in your solder pot and then asse

We are starting to see issues with using Kester WS R562 with lead free components. The joints look grainy on almost all of the 0402'2 and other small components. Some of the solder does not solder to the terminations. These are hybrid boards which

All of our reflow is with room air, 63/37 and SAC305. I believe nitrogen will get you better looking solder joints (shiny, less grainy under magnification), but per IPC, functionality and strength I don't think there is much difference.

Hi everyone: Our company is trying out immersion white tin for fine pitch assembly with what I would call mixed results. Reflow solder looks very good, but wave solder looks somewhat grainy (this may not be a problem in actuality). We had dewettin

Hi Dave, Thank you for the response. In answer to your responses I'll use the original numbers of my questions. 1. We would like to turn around our boards fast, but sometimes due to the market conditions we wind up with inventory. After reading

Sr. Tech, you are right in that there is no verification of the profile. We are a Class 3 high mix OEM. We have visual inspection after SMT. We have not seen problems with wetting, grainy solder, cold solder, charred boards, etc. that would indicate

Would anyone out there happen to have some experience with wave soldering of white emmersion finish pcb's? Recently, we have done some prototype boards in white tin. The reflow solder joints look very good, but the wave solder joints look grainy. I
