Does anyone have experience with different colors of solder mask. I am interested to know if a clear or light color mask is better in the reflow process. Most of the boards we do have a green solder mask. It seems to me that I read somewhere that

HI, i work for an EMS company and i got a few remarks on the solder mask question. In the manufacturing of PCBs there should be no difference if they use other color solder mask, but in the production of electronic assembly it could make a difference

Hi, From a Manufactures choice - Green is the best due to it is the most commonly used mask color in the industry & cheapest. Kind a like Red paint for Barns. For US shops, most only have one LPI machine and to continually switch from Green to othe

I did not change my mind, I just said that we sat down with the manufacturer and showed them the 3-4 different color PCBs for one product. They agreed that it is not acceptable... and supply us only from one of their sites. (the different manufacturi

Sorry, if my first comment was a bit offensive against PCB manufacturers (it was not really intended :( ). We have already discussed the above mentioned issues with the manufacturer, and they stated, that everything is within specification... (and y

Hi Konrad, Nothing is ever Clearly one persons issue. Color differences could be caused by many things. 1) Being the solder mask is a two part mix, there is never a 100% guarantee that the color will be the same from lot to lot. 2)the Manufactur

Sounds like the mask wasn't properly cured. What kind of solder mask is it? We use a photoimageable mask on our boards. The secondary cure is ~ 90 minutes @ 150C. One of the cured mask tests is solder bath resistance where it has to resist degra

Today the line experienced the white gloves turns green at the point of contact when holding fresh board that came out from wave soldering. Was that the effect of inproper solder mask curing at PCB house during fabrications ? For a proper cured solde

Thanx for the feedback. The solder mask is PSR-4000 ( need to confirm this - not too sure ). If the board got in touch with the solder bath, for the contact time of 3 - 6 secs, this should not be the case for proper curing process right ?. thanx ag

We have encountered what appears to be mask discoloration after wave soldering. The areas of concern coincide with the areas that were exposed selectively by fixtures during wave soldering, dominated by one date code of PCB with a slightly different
