leakage current in pcbs

Electronics Forum | Tue Jul 20 08:12:13 EDT 1999 | jacqueline coia

Could someone please tell me if it is possible that erroneous 'leakage current' readings in an instrument could be inheritated by the type, design and fabrication of the PCB itself, if so then where could I find information relating to this subject.

Clean vs No-Clean

Electronics Forum | Mon Sep 08 10:34:37 EDT 2008 | blnorman

Because of our high volume production, we use no clean flux. We have experienced leakage currents with leadless QFNs. One problem is the part isn't being utilized as it should, but another is the flux residue. There is ionic residue in no-clean fl

We have seen leakage currents around parts that have high impedance. Evidently with a small amount of moisture, weak organic acids present in the flux residue can cause a low leakage.

At present the band-aid fix is using epoxy 'dam' under the part and masking over the part to pervent excessive current leakage conmonent failure. These parts are first going through the reflow oven, where the epoxy dam is used to over come the leakag

Hi, We have a issue with current leakage between pins on an SSOP 28 in a low frequency RF application and there is a suspicion that it is being caused by something in the flux residue. We have had the bad boards analyzed and a 'high' Chloride level w

C3 just uses heated DI water that it applies, then pulls back into a disposable cartridge. Machine then applies a 10V charge to the sample & measures leakage current(nA,I think) over time(sec). If the leakage current is high enough/fast enough, you

Solder briding on QFP

In a former job we had issues with leakage currents on a QFP. The component was acting as a thermal shield leaving a lot of flux residue behind. To make it worse, the flux solvent wasn't totally evaporated, so we had ionic residue, a fluid media, a

Clean vs No-Clean

Hi We are designing a new pcb which contains sensitive analogue circuitry, where tiny leakage currents could dramatically affect product performance. Should I build this product Clean or a No-clean chemistry set ? Thanks in advance

Cracked ceramic chip capacitors.

Electronics Forum | Fri Apr 11 11:26:09 EDT 2003 | Brian W.

Cracked capacitors usually are not found at ICT. Unless the cap is completely cracked, the capacitance may not change much, and the usual failure mode is a leakage current. This is usually only seen in ESS type testing, when temperature and humidit
