It does looks like a arbor press. It's a customized one to be exact, pins there to fits the fixture.

Loose pin orientation

Electronics Forum | Tue Apr 19 10:19:28 EDT 2011 | leemeyer

We currently have a job that uses press fit solderless pins. The pins are custom and only supplied in bulk packaging. I am looking for a machine that can orient the pins and present them to my insertion machine. Of course i need the pin to be present

Forcing Connectors

Electronics Forum | Tue May 28 14:01:09 EDT 2002 | zanolli

Hello Sally, The force required for press fit connectors will vary depending on the connector type. The force will also very significantly from one supplier to another for the same connector. To give you an example; for a .100" DIN 41612 connector

There is a variation on the pins that come through on the other side. The pins that are deforming are roughly half the size of those which aren't deformed. There are no witness marks on the pins that are deformed, suggesting that the pins aren't fouli

Presse for press-fit connector

Depending on the connector you should be able to use a standard cheap arbor press with some cheap home-made tooling. Standard arbor presses typically have a rotating disc with cut-outs, remove this and put a decent quality stainless steel block in it

I'm out here on the leftcoast. Actually, our method for removal is: break down the sides, pull each pin individually. It's tedious and time consuming, but it can be accomplished with little risk of damaging the board. Customers are curious, however.

Re: Universal GSM & paste-in-hole

Electronics Forum | Tue Jan 07 09:51:27 EST 2003 | Mr. Fuller

I am looking for some feedback from anyone who has used a Universal GSM for placement of paste-in-hole (PTH) connectors. The connectors in question are simply 8-pin, (non-press-fit), header connectors. I understand that a special 'chuck' may be requ

gold connectors

Electronics Forum | Thu May 30 08:51:45 EDT 2002 | davef

I assume the connector is like one used in PC104 that allows mating of boards together by inserting the pins extending from the connector on one board into the female portion of the connector on a second board. Who ever accepted this job is dopey.

Solder On Gold Mounting Holes, Gold Pressure Fit Socket Lands

Electronics Forum | Tue May 06 22:15:06 EDT 2008 | davef

We agree. We consider mounting holes and press fgit socket pads to be "critical contact areas." Consider taking steps to prevent the production of such solder splats on your gold to help elimate gold rework. We discussed this previously here on SMTn
