Cobalt in leadfree solder alloys?

Electronics Forum | Fri Oct 23 14:20:52 EDT 2009 | waveroom

We offer SN100C solder alloys. I was asked about SN100E which is tin/copper and cobalt. Anyone know anything about the cobalt and it's pros and cons in soldering process?

Running with sn100c in my solder pot!

Hi Paul, Can't find any info on Cobalt 995,but we do have experience of 99/0.7/0.3 +0.02% Cobalt wire - flows better than any leadfree wire we've come across & the cobalt is supposed to improve tip life. Bit smokey though, but with extraction that'

Glad to hear it is running good for you. I have my new wave solder machine in house.(hooking it up next week). I am debating between Sn100 and Cobalt 995 (metallic resources). Does anybody have an experience with the Cobalt. Or a reason not to go wit

Cobalt in leadfree solder alloys?

We believe that some suppliers replace nickel with cobalt in SN100 to product a shinier, less grainy, more attractive lead-free solder connection. SN100E sales-types like the idea that it is available in paste, bar stock, and other forms; as compare

Hi Joe, Try: S03X7C-56M from koki - http://www.ko-ki.co.jp which has cobalt in it to extend tip life or: SN100C from Nihon Superior, which is a nickel stabilised alloy that also extends tip life. The Koki solder flows better that any other leadfr

Try using a solder like S03X7C from Koki, which uses cobalt to prolong the tip life & also a wire wool type dry wipe instead of a wet sponge.

SAC 305 Reflow & SN100C Wave and Selective

Electronics Forum | Tue Feb 20 16:42:31 EST 2007 | ratsalad

We have been using SAC 305 for reflow and Cobalt 995 (very similar to SN100C, only cheaper) for wave and rework for quite a while now with no issues that I'm aware of.

Palladium Nickel and Palladium Cobalt plating

Hi, what is significant different between PdNi and PdCo Plating? I found in some papers indicate that the deposit characteristics for both plating is totally the same.

SACX vs. SN100C

I am also getting ready to order solder for my new wave. Based on what I have read (here and other places) people prefer Sn100c for the wave. I have yet to hear of someone using Sn100c and switching to SACx. I am using SAC305 for reflow and I am tryi

We have SnCuCo (Cobalt 995) solder from MRI in our solder pot. I'm not the wave master here, but I believe our wave master is pretty satisfied with it. Send an email to cuculi54986@yahoo.com, and I'll forward your email address from there to him.
