Hi Yes, this is the only component with Ag/Pd finish. I found that by applying a copious amount of solder on the pad (we are using a dispenser) the component will be soldered. Although most of the solder coalesces on the terminations of the componen

Double check on this, but we have this little voice in our heads telling us that your AgPd termination is intended for conductive adhesive applications. Check with your component supplier. We recall a thread on SMTnet [ http://www.smtnet.com/forums

We're not really sure. Usually when solder leaves the pads and wicks-up a component lead, it means the component lead is much warmer than the pad on the board. This is the direction we would have taken this if we hadn't taken the AgPd / conductive e

Hi, Recently we have encountered solder wicking on components termination (total of 13 pcs of components on one pcb)with Ag/Pd finishes during lead-free reflow soldering. The pcb is LF HASL surface finish and LF solder paste composition is SAC305.We

Hi everybody, I found a defect varistor 0603 Tombstone and poor welting when we use component that terminal is Silver palladium (Ag/ Pd) with Leaded solder paste (63/37). Then we change alternative component that terminal is Ni/ Sn the result not fou

Have you confirmed in an SEM that the break is in the solder and not in the termination? If not in the termination, is it in the intermetallic rather than the bulk solder? It's unusual for the break to be in the solder joint when chips are knocked

I don't suggest using Pd/Ag or Ag/Pd terminated components unless you are forced to use them. You often see a line of demarcation that suggests a poorly wetted solder joint. I have had bad experiences with Pd/Ag terminated capacitors. Even when so

Good afternoon, Thanks for input AR. Fortunately, supplier can offer us nickel barrier alternative. I will do exactly as you did. BR, Pavel

You say, "we have encountered solder wicking on components ..." We expect to see wicking on solder connections. Maybe we're just using different terminology. Please describe the problem that you're seeing.
