Typically lead is plated with tin. One problem with using just tin plating is that you can grow "wiskers" over time, and potentially develop a short somewhere on your PCB. SMTA is giving a presentation on the effects of lead-free solderability.

Higher Tg values are only one thing to look out for. Two other things that are very important to watch are the Td or Decomposition Temperature (the temperature that the epoxy actualy starts to break down), and the CTE for the material. Some Tg 14

I have a customer who approved and asked us to process PCB's built with Lead-Free HASL Finish using Eutectic Solder. We did as directed and inspected the result from a 10-PCB Run and couldn't find any problem with solderability or issues. What Issue

"Although some lead-free pastes performed adequately and newer pastes work better than earlier formulations, this detailed experiment confirmed that tin/lead solder pastes wet back to PCB pads better than lead-free solder pastes. Therefore, a more ac

[sorry for the first post, but I was not registered] So, we are in a strange situation: We have new Hot Air Levelling Lead Free PCB, but our process is not ready to lead free, so that we have Sn/Pb solder paste, standard reflow profile, etc... What

Hi Gents, I heard people having concernes by using 2512R SMD resistors due to potential solder joint reliability defect(CTE mismach among ceramic/alumina+solder+PCB) when soldered by lead free alloys (SAC like). Any experience/news about solder j

There are several implications: - some lead free alloys do not form an acceptable solder joint when used with lead contaning paste. (ie. Bismuth) - if you use both lead free and lead containing components, you will have different solder joint compos

Hi Does anyone know of any potential issues with using a ENIG pcb finish for lead free manufacturing ? I was once told that a pcb manufacturer found some "Pink Residue" on a batch of boards that had been finished with ENIG and been used for lead f
