We don't do any wave, SMT only. We did not have to change apertures for lead free, we use the same stencil that we did when we ran water soluble with pb. This I think might be dependant upon your current design of both pad and apertures however.

Thanks everyone for all the input. All of our stencils do have the PCB # etched on the foil but when operators look for the stencils they are looking for the part # on the frame since they are all stored vertically in a couple of Remstar shuttles and

We know nothing about Envivar UV 1244 and you weren't real clear about the details of the problem or the materials [eg, ws flux, solder mask, etc], but we'd speculate your adhesion problem goes back to the cleanliness of your board. First by 'alcoho

Several things to check are: * Ask Multicore if their flux res and your conformal coat are compatible. Conformal coats and NC flux res are notorious for having compatibily issues. * Conformal coat a bare board to determine if there is there is enoug

IPC-HDBK-830, Guidelines for Design, Selection and Application of Conformal Coatings says: A conformal coating may have several functions depending on the type of application. The most common are: * Inhibit current leakage and short circuit due to h

Pb free pastes do not wet out like 63/37. Their are no claims from any manufacturers that I am aware of that say it will. Your "little solder balls" are likely caused from oxidization during reflow. What type paste are you using 3,4,5? What are t

The LF pastes will have virtually NO wetting spread. This is normal. LF mobilities are virtually non-existant with SAC alloys. However, the addition of varrying amounts of silver can (and does) improve mobility but, this comes with a price (paste

First, don't get too excited about the thermal capabilities of conductive epoxy. An epoxy like DuPont CB-100 increases the amount of heat conducted through the barrel, but many over estimate what it can do. Calculations show for a 0.020" drilled

The Jury is still out on no-clean reliability in the long term as no-clean didn't gain wide spread acceptance until the early 1990's. Also, in today's disposable society, few products are expected to last 15-20 years. Experience has shown that if y

It's driven by those highly technically astute politicians in Europe. IPC has a lead-free forum you can subscribe to and almost to a person in the forum agrees that elimination of lead in solder is assinine. From the automotive end of electronics
