what type of flux are you using and what type of solder resist is on the PCB solder resist (Gloss or Matte), also what is the orientation of the connector to the wave flow and what is the pitch of the leads? Russ

Regarding Lead Free component finishes, vendors are zeroing in on matte tin plating as the finish of choice. What test are performed, to determine if a finish is "matte" type (vs. non-matte)?

whiskers / "matte" => no whiskers. Look here: http://nepp.nasa.gov/whisker/anecdote/20year/ There. Nice going. What a buzz killer. I've got to got find some donuts, cold pizza, er whatever.

Thanks. Yes, this is a interesting topic, and one that keeps our component engineers busy these days. I'm familiar with the data you referenced. Is there a "easy" method (test method) to use at incoming inspection to verify a termination is "matte

Bright vs matte tin is fairly easy, but there's a s whole bunch of alternatives, beyond those two choices. So, no, not that we know.

We agree with you. Since when do failures ask themselves about the process used to attach them to the board, before failing. Smack your colleagues for us!!!

We get this from time to time and I have found that a lot of times the customer or somebody has broken the joints from flexing or other handling. Is this component in the center of the PCBA? Russ

There 's one thing I'm not sure...For the OSP board finish whether we could bake and then store this kind of PCB?or whether once we opened the vacumm package of OSP board and then we can't bake it ? Thanks Bryan

Baking your boards will redue the amount of OSP on the board. If you use the boards quickly, you probably will not have a problem with baking [and don't bake too long]. Why do you want bake this board?
