Hello, Are there any rules for PCB drying (baking) before assembly; Date code criteria, finish process on PCB, storage conditions.. ect. I know some assemblers that are baking all PCB (not ENTEK!) as default before assembly, is it realy nessesary? i

1) Do people always bake, sometimes or never? Does this depend on whether MS sensitive components are near the rework site? If a BGA is to be removed and reballed, baking is a no-brainer. Sometimes, based on the proximity of the MS components. >2)

Baking before assembly does nothing good. It: * Increases costs. * Adds steps to the process and makes scheduling more cumbersome. * Increases the amount corrosion on solderable surfaces. We used to bake to remove the moisture from boards that caus

It depends. What is: * Storage environment and period * Board laminate, epoxy, and copper thickness of PTH * Down stream process * Etc FR4 0.062" thick boards absorb between 0.08 to 0.1%Wt of moisture within a 24 hour period, and 0.2 to 0.23%Wt in

Can a bare PCB be ESD-sensitive ? If yes , in what conditions ?

It depends. * A common bare PCB IS NOT ESD sensitive and is a static generator * A less uncommon PCB with embedded parts IS ESD sensitive and is a static generator

Do you mean making bare boards or populating bare boards. You post sounds like you mean the first but this forum mainly deals with the second. And to do either well, you need 10-20 years experience. Or hire someone with said experience.

I use the solder sample pcb that comes w/ each batch of boards. We ask our pcb vendor to send 1 pcb for solder testing w/ each batch. This is usually a pcb that is completely done it just didn't pass electrical test @ the final stage. I kill two bird

I am working on a magnetic sensors design and noticed that my measured magnetic field bias shifts over time. I have studied the bare PCB and measured that it can be magnetized with a strong magnet. I tested two blank (unpopulated PCBS). The first PC

The way we do this, is to tape a transparent film to the PCB. The printers and chip shooters can read fiducials no problems. Once it has been run through SMT, simply remove the tranparency film and the PCB is ready for use, no mess no cleaning and yo
