The SMTA announced a session on QFN Assembly and Reliability will take place on Tuesday, October 18 during their annual conference, SMTA International, in Ft. Worth, Texas. Andrew Mawer of Freescale Semiconductor will chair the session and Viswam Puligandla, Ph.D., Nokia (Retired) will co-chair.

IPC's Validation Services Program is proud to announce that Zentech Manufacturing, Inc. has become the first company to be recertified to the IPC-J-STD-001 Space Addendum QML program. Zentech Manufacturing, Inc. achieved the QML certification three years ago and this year successfully demonstrated the Class 3 level work required for recertification. Not only did Zentech Manufacturing, Inc. become recertified, their wholly owned subsidiary, Colonial Assembly and Design LLC, added the QML certification for IPC/WHMA-A-620, Requirements and Acceptance for Cable and Wire Harness Assemblies, at the class 3 level.

IPC's Validation Services Program has awarded an IPC J-STD-001 and IPC-A-610 Qualified Manufacturers Listing (QML) to John Deere Electronic Solutions, a manufacturer of custom, integrated electronics components based in Fargo, N.D. The company became the first OEM to successfully complete an intensive audit based on two of IPC's foremost standards: IPC J-STD-001, Requirements for Soldered Electrical and Electronic Assemblies and IPC-A-610, Acceptability of Electronic Assemblies.

Two IEEE standards on setting criteria for environmentally preferable electronic equipment will soon be balloted. Although technically voluntary, these standards, under the Environmentally Preferable Electronics Assessment Tool (EPEAT) umbrella of standards, become de facto regulations due to President Obama’s Executive Order 13514 Federal Leadership in Environmental, Energy, and Economic Performance that requires all government procurement to be certified to EPEAT.
