What are the Major Causes of Variable Frequency Drive (VFD) Damage?

Industry News | 2021-12-07 20:24:41.0

Variable frequency drive belongs to electronic products, which were composed of many components. An electronic product will not correctly work if any component goes wrong. The Common failures of frequency converters are overvoltage, overload, overcurrent and overheating. They are generally caused by improper use and the operating environment. Meanwhile, there's a particular service life for electronic products. The aging of the product will be more evident as the use of time increases.

CAMI Develops Capability of Checking Twist Pair Relationships in Cables as Short as Six Feet

Industry News | 2018-08-21 09:19:50.0

Celebrating its 25th anniversary, CAMI Research Inc. (Acton, MA), manufacturer of the CableEye automation-ready cable and harness test system, has developed the capability of checking and measuring twist pair relationships in cables as short as six feet. This feature is now standard in the model M4 low voltage continuity tester, and available as an option for HiPot (HVX-series) testers. The same circuitry allows for measuring cable length, length to break, capacitance, and resistance with precision (4-wire).

When You Should Use an Absolute Encoder - Pros and Cons of Different Absolute Encoders

Industry News | 2021-12-28 20:23:06.0

As is known to us, rotary encoders consist of incremental encoders and absolute encoders. And absolute encoders are much more expensive than incremental encoders. In fact, both two types of encoders are used for position measurement. So what's the point of using an absolute encoder? For distance measurement applications, both incremental and absolute encoders can be chosen - from a technical point of view. The advantages of absolute encoders are reflected in accuracy and performance, while incremental encoders seem more economical and practical.

Physics of Failure (PoF) Based Lifetime Prediction of Power Electronics at the Printed Circuit Board Level

Technical Library | 2021-09-15 19:00:35.0

This paper presents the use of physics of failure (PoF) methodology to infer fast and accurate lifetime predictions for power electronics at the printed circuit board (PCB) level in early design stages. It is shown that the ability to accurately model silicon–metal layers, semiconductor packaging, printed circuit boards (PCBs), and assemblies allows, for instance, the prediction of solder fatigue failure due to thermal, mechanical, and manufacturing conditions. The technique allows a lifecycle prognosis of the PCB, taking into account the environmental stresses it will encounter during the period of operation. Primarily, it involves converting an electronic computer aided design (eCAD) circuit layout into computational fluid dynamic (CFD) and finite element analysis (FEA) models with accurate geometries. From this, stressors, such as thermal cycling, mechanical shock, natural frequency, and harmonic and random vibrations, are applied to understand PCB degradation, and semiconductor and capacitor wear, and accordingly provide a method for high-fidelity power PCB modelling, which can be subsequently used to facilitate virtual testing and digital twinning for aircraft systems and sub-systems.

Soldering of SMD Film Capacitors in Practical Lead Free Processes

Technical Library | 2009-06-02 23:53:18.0

Today the lead free soldering process is a must in commercial electronics and it is also coming more and more important in automative and industrial electronics sectors in the near future. The most common choices for lead free solders are different Tin-Solder-Copper (SAC) alloys. Processes using SAC solders cause extra stress, because of increased process temperatures, especially to the plastic materials.
