Excess wave flux on lead free process

That would be our first guess, also. Get the stuff analyzed to be sure. Another clue is if the white stuff disappears when you hit it with hot air from a rework station. The hot air is activate the flux. Good troubleshooting tool, but you're subj

Double Sided Reflow

Electronics Forum | Thu Mar 17 11:07:08 EST 2005 | Dougs

I'd agree with Justin, we do double sided reflow on most of our boards with fine pitch QFP's both sides, you do have a problem somewhere else, what size is you board? Is it warping slightly? What kind of oven are you using? Is it convection? fans

modifying a pcb?

It's possible to remove 1mm from each side of the board. Obviously, you need to avoid damaging the board circuitry or the display. If we were going to try this, we'd poke the working end of a Sears router through a hole in the table and fixture a w

Sounds like EA has way too much free time on his hands. How are you taking a reading. What instruments are you useing to get a reading. What are you looking for? Voids? Adhearsion? Contamination? Why would you need to know what it takes to break a co

PCB Warpage

Electronics Forum | Fri Apr 08 17:23:34 EDT 2005 | KEN

Warpage factors can cause: 1. Boards can not transfer down conveyor belts or wedge at transitions. 2. May not enter into machinery due to interferences (like board clamps) 3. May fall off conveyor chain in furnace. Especially true of thin (PCMCI

Thats called technician syndrome (fine when your there and bad when you walk away). Is someone inspecting the board before reflow? If so make sure they don't touch it and run about 5 boards and see if it's consistent for placement. What type of pro

TH Crystals

Electronics Forum | Tue May 10 12:12:42 EDT 2005 | dougt

We had an outside vendor that built a particular board for us. When there were problems with the new board 9 times out of 10 the case of the oscillator was shorted to the lead as mentioned in the post above. The fix would be to draw some of the sol

A Meaty one for you clever guys in production

Electronics Forum | Tue May 17 10:27:02 EDT 2005 | johnw

Thanks Guys I am looking to enhance and utilise exsisting machines or a with a reduced investment ie I have already purchased printers and placement machines If I had line balancing software this would be great I want to input the present cycle time

Maximum PCB width

Electronics Forum | Thu May 19 08:32:46 EDT 2005 | geb

I have a Universal GSM. Does anyone know the maximum width, between the conveyor rails, that a PCB can be. The GSM had an "Axis PWC error", which I think is down to the board width being too wide. This time I was able to halve the board width from 2

A.O.I recommendation

Electronics Forum | Wed Jun 08 10:32:27 EDT 2005 | rlackey

We ran an MVT 1820 Supra against a VT-Win-II for around 40K high density boards. One machine was 1/3 of the price of the other, more accurate in production, faster, and could handle larger boards. Guess which won? Fortunately we were able to loo
