We have been using this finish almost exclusively for fine pitch boards for about 5 years. Make SURE you use a board house that does the gold plating in-house. There are some potential issues as DaveF stated. The only problem we have encountered is w

REFLOW PROFILE NEED HELP

Electronics Forum | Wed Aug 24 08:43:45 EDT 2005 | PWH

What kind of problems/defects/process indicators are you having? It is likely that you will have to bite the bullet and get a thermal profiling mole to prove that your selected profiles are subjecting parts to the correct tempertures per part specs.

tape splicing pros and cons

Electronics Forum | Wed Sep 21 10:40:18 EDT 2005 | PWH

Splicing for us has been a rough go as we haven't really found a tool that works well/fast. We have a few different machines = different feeders. They all react different to a splicing "style". The best so far is a crimp tool that crimps a brass s

Pb % contaminant allowed in Pb/Free Solder

Electronics Forum | Fri Nov 11 20:41:58 EST 2005 | GS

Thank you Davef, If I am not wrong in understanding, your answer is mainly related to the Legal point of view according to several different Countries who adopted Rohs or equivalent. My question, sorry for my poor English, is mainly related to the

Lead free tin copper only

Electronics Forum | Tue Feb 07 13:39:42 EST 2006 | gregoryyork

You can use straight forward Tin/Copper but it flows very poorly so solderability is an issue. Dosing with Phos improves this but need to stay on top of it. We have supplied some 3.8%Ag alloys for flow they work well but you get a small 'chill point'

Problems with SN100C in a Soltec Delta C Wave

Hi, We have spent the day trying to profile our Vitroncis Soltec Delta C wave with the new SN100C solder, but having problems with the heavy pins on some BNC connectors we are using. We have Interflux no residue flux, and we are using palettes, whi

We evaluated the OM338 from Alpha and it worked great! Looked like crap, though, compared to the other products out there. When I set the boards out in front of the Alpha sales guy to show him the difference in appearance between his boards and the

Yield on 0402 SMT Printed Circuit Board Assemblies

Electronics Forum | Thu Jan 04 15:39:07 EST 2007 | dyoungquist

While the 85% yield on a per board basis seems low, we are actually running over 99% yield on a per solder joint basis as there are about 17,700 joints per panel. On average, 9 out of 63 boards in the panel need rework. Rework issues include missin

Solder paste handing

Electronics Forum | Mon Jan 15 06:18:50 EST 2007 | CL

Good Morning Stephen, 1) Most solder paste manufacturers recommend a 2 hour temperature stabilazation period. Solder paste should not be opened and exposed to ambient air if it is still cold. 2)Manufacturers do not reccomend mixing old and new paste

BGA opens

Electronics Forum | Sun Jan 14 16:35:48 EST 2007 | Austin

I have several boards built at various CM's. We have prototype builds with some JTAG failures on BGA's (1-3 failures with qty 3, 1500 pin BGA's). CM's always claim reflow profiles look good. X-ray does not show bridges and they claim it looks good, b
