Hi everyone, Is there any instrument that you are using to measure the tensile strenght of a solder joint?. I would like to measure that from smd and thru hole parts. I just want to take a few samples to verify the mechanical properties. Thanks

The president of my former place of employment used a screw driver for his solder joint quality assessment. I recommend you keep yours calibrated and locked up, just to be safe.

I hear that. A 2002? You poor b-stard! That's like having cold solder joints! (Gotta keep it related)

Will clay, rock, and paper provide sufficient signal carrying capabilities without degrading signal strength or transmission speed, and further, will these materials exceed tensile strengths of traditional "metallurgical" solder joints? DaveF? Patr

It sounds like this part is floating on your solder joint during reflow. You may need to redesign your pad geometry. In general with this type of clip - smaller pads are better. If you cannotcahnge pad size, try changing the openings on your stenc

Hi, After reflow process we do Automatic inspection and after that direct to 5DX machine to check all the solder joints and we detected it at 5DX inspection. This card havent go to any testing.

Does your top-side preheat NEED to be that high, and so high that you are exceeding the flux manufacturers' spec? If so, what is the reason? Top-side wetting? Are you measuring this temperature at the substrate or solder joint?

What kind of AOI machine are you using? Some OEMs seem to not understand that we want to also check for correct parts with AOI not just absence/presence and solder joints. But markings are an issue. I remember when 0805 caps had markings.

Does any one know of digital scope that can hooked to a PC to aid the QC inspectors in inspecting the solder joints. We tried the pyroscope(http://www.theproscope.com/) and it didn't work well. Thanks
